Department Overview

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and emergency response.

Electric Operations is focused on ensuring the safe operation of 106,681 circuit miles of electric distribution lines and 18,466 circuit miles of interconnected transmission lines supporting 5.1 million electric customer accounts throughout a 70,000-square mile service area. Within Electric Operations, the mission of Electric Business Operations (EBO) is to advance the Electric Operations business with a strategic, executable, and affordable work plan. Within EBO, the Investment Planning team creates and maintains the multi-year investment plans for PG&E’s Electric Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Capital and Expense programs to provide safe, reliable, and affordable service to our customers.  The team works with Senior and Executive management, Asset Management, Program Managers, Business Partners, Planning Staff, and others to establish and implement long-term Investment Plans that are stable, predictable, visible, prioritized, integrated, efficient, and executable.

Position Summary

The Director, Contract & Project Management, will play a key role in ensuring safety to Californian’s through a short- and long-term strategy to mitigate fire-ignition risks related to 106,681 circuit miles of electric distribution lines and 18,466 circuit miles of interconnected transmission lines supporting 5.1 million electric customer accounts throughout a 70,000-square mile service area.

The Director will be responsible for leading resource management and scheduling, finance, reporting, training, internal and external communications, commitments management, governance, and maintaining standards and procedures. The Director will be responsible for regulatory aspects and data requests and act as the Witness for any regulatory filings related to Vegetation Management.

Through partnership and collaboration with Asset, Risk Management & Community Wildfire Safety Program, Electric Compliance, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Transmission System Operations, Electric Distribution Operations, and Wildfire Safety and Public Engagement, the Director will be responsible for building a risk-informed short- and long-term execution plan and monitoring and controlling execution through defined metrics and goals to ensure the plan gets executed.

The Director will act as the regulatory Witness and single point of contact for all data response requests.

The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of Electric Operations, understand risk modeling, have strong financial acumen, be adept at analytical techniques for forecasting, be able to work collaboratively across functional areas, and be able to effectively communicate to senior leadership on a routine basis.

Job Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Partner and collaborate with Asset, Risk Management & Community Wildfire Safety Program, Electric Compliance, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Transmission System Operations, Electric Distribution Operations, and Wildfire Safety and Public Engagement, to ensure the risk-informed short- and long-term execution plan is executed successfully
  • Engage Business Finance and Electric Business Operations to provide Performance Management and Financial reporting and analytics
  • Accountable for training, communication, standards and procedures, and governance

Regulatory Support

  • Serve as the Witness for all Vegetation Management any regulatory filings, including the General Rate Case filing for 2023 - 2026
  • Support testimony development
  • Respond to data requests in a timely manner
  • Utilize risk modeling to inform the short- and long-term planning in partnership with Electric Operations Asset Management and Enterprise and Operational Risk Management
  • Coordinate requests and responses to all PG&E Overseers, including State and Federal Monitor requests
  • Continuous Improvement

  • Engage with Business Partners to advance business processes, based on analytical findings
  • Support driving efficiencies within the line of business through the use of data analytics and visualization
  • Implement change control practices
  • Provide visibility and accountability to strategic initiatives

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or job-related discipline
  • Leadership experience, 7 years
  • Experience in the electric utility, 10 years

Desired:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Forestry, or Science
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
