Department Overview

Information Technology (IT) is a unified organization comprised of various departments which collaborate effectively in order to deliver high quality technology solutions.  The disaster recovery program ensures disaster recovery planning and testing for critical IT services and applications.

Position Summary

Provide technical leadership and consulting to all IT organizations regarding Disaster Recovery (DR) of critical computing and network infrastructure and applications.  The successful candidate must have an excellent working knowledge of data center computing and network environments, an understanding of system resiliency in applications (business and technical), and experience with site-to-site DR design and testing.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated knowledge of and experience with disaster recovery.  They should be self-directed and comfortable working in a fluid and sometimes stressful environment.  They should have experience working with various levels of the organization and across various lines of business both within and outside of IT.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience required
  • Enterprise IT system management training or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience with large IT infrastructure integrations or large system development
  • Demonstrated Expert Knowledge of host, storage, and back-up platforms and services
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuance policies, procedures, regulations and governance processes required
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence others
  • Demonstrated ability in driving for results

Desired:

  • Disaster Recovery Certified Expert (DRCE), Certified Emergency Management (CEM) or other relevant certifications
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements impacting utilities (e.g. NERC CIP, NRC Title 10, HIPPA, SOX, FCC, etc.)

Responsibilities

Tactical planning and solutions services:

  • Work with key IT stakeholders on short term and long term solutions for DR
  • Assist in creating and maintaining DR roadmap
  • Work with Application stakeholders to ensure DR architecture aligns with PG&E Disaster Recovery Technical Standard (IT-5315S)
  • Work with stakeholders on related/impacted lifecycle efforts and the associated DR designs
  • Provide computing, network and application DR architecture/design input for projects
  • Provide computing, network and application DR consulting services to stakeholders

Provide the following services associated with key Infrastructure or Business Technology systems:

  • Develop, implement and maintain Disaster Recovery strategy, plans, policies and procedures for IT Infrastructure and Operations (I&O)
  • Identify and make recommendations regarding critical points of failure
  • Own and help execute testing of plans with various operational and support groups
  • Coordinate disaster recovery testing in accordance with the DR technology standard
  • Identify and track resolution of recovery issues
  • Provide leadership and guidance in creating and maintaining recovery plans for critical PG&E computing sites (Site Recovery Plans), infrastructure and business systems (IT Core Recovery Plans)
  • Work with system teams to incorporate changes and/or expand recovery plans when changes to infrastructure or business processes are introduced
  • Review all changes to ensure they have been appropriately assessed, tested, and incorporated into the larger enterprise plan

Operations:

  • Provide high level technical consulting for current infrastructure DR footprint
  • Maintain the Disaster Recovery SharePoint repository for Testing information and DR Procedures Library
  • Provide DR metrics and reporting compliance
