Position Summary
The IT Solution Engineer job family provides technical leadership in design, development and implementation of IT solution deliverables. This could include the assessment and optimization of system design and review of user requirements. Provides technical direction to determine technical and operational feasibility of solutions that are integrated with the existing or defined IT network architecture and services standards, to meet clearly defined technical performance requirements.
Develops prototypes of the system design and works with network, database, operations, technical support and other IT areas as appropriate throughout development and implementation processes in order to improve system resilience and reliability. Also provides IT Solution Engineering technical leadership to ensure that design, development, and testing activities conform to the strategic and tactical direction for individual initiatives. All employees are responsible for performing their jobs in accordance with PG&E’s vision and values.
Job Responsibilities
- Applies broad knowledge of IT standards, service offerings and operational options to develop an implementation approach of technology solution alternatives related to Disaster Recovery (DR)
- Utilizes broad portfolio-building approach, subject matter expertise and communication skills to create and present innovative solutions based on requirements
- Expected to promote the development and reuse of common solutions, components and services
- Provide computing, network and application DR consulting services to stakeholders
- Collaborate with other domain specific (application, infrastructure, or information) Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to complete IT deliverables
- Work with key IT stakeholders on short-term and long-term solutions for DR
- Work with Application & Infrastructure stakeholders to ensure DR architecture aligns with PG&E Disaster Recovery Technical Standard
- Identify and track resolution of recovery issues
- Provide support and guidance in creating and maintaining recovery plans for critical PG&E computing sites (Site Recovery Plans), infrastructure and business systems (IT Core Recovery Plans)
- Work with system teams to appropriately assess, test and incorporate system changes in the larger system specific DR plans
- Maintain the Disaster Recovery SharePoint repository for DR Plans, testing information and DR Procedures Library
- Provide support in maintaining and delivering DR metrics and reporting compliance information
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
- Experience in enterprise architecture environments, job-related
- 5 years experience in IT-Information Technology engineering design
Desired:
- A combination of both education and practical experience
- Disaster Recovery Certified Expert (DRCE), Certified Emergency Management (CEM) or other relevant certifications
- Understanding of regulatory requirements impacting utilities (e.g. NERC CIP, NRC Title 10, HIPPA, SOX, FCC, etc.)
- IT Project Management experience
- PMP-Project Management Professional certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Good understanding, in a core business area of a utility, of how technology plays a key enabler/support role
- Exposure to creating or working with cross-functional IT professional individuals or teams
- Exposure to a process improvement discipline (i.e. Six Sigma) used within a technology supported business process implementation
- Demonstrated knowledge of host, storage, and back-up platforms and services
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity policies, procedures, regulations and governance processes required
- Ability to collaborate with and influence others
- Demonstrated ability in driving for results
