Department Overview

The Coworkers of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

Lead technical engineering support for the Transmission Line Standards Team.  Provides lead support for the development of technical standards, strategy, and coordination with Work Methods and Standards persons.  Manages major cross- functional projects and initiatives by focusing on specific areas of T-Line engineering that require engineering solutions.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although, we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Annual Minimum:  $132,000.00

Annual Maximum: $226,000.00

Job Responsibilities

  • Acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in various T Line engineering areas and provides oversight to fewer senior engineers
  • Applies broad and extensive business understanding of technical issues and impacts the strategic direction and policies of PG&E
  • Works with other Lines of Business (such as sourcing) to provide input on standards-related materials and products
  • Contributes new designs and techniques that are regarded as major advances in PG&E and/or industry
  • Frequently serves as a lead in developing and authoring codes, regulations and/or national standards
  • Leverages expertise and industry involvement to achieve positive results
  • Manages multiple internal and external clients and acts as a top tier of support to less senior engineers
  • May develop and maintain design criteria and national/ industry T-line standards
  • Provides high-level advice and expertise to upper management on an ongoing basis
  • Supervises 0-2 Engineers or Specialists

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in civil or structural engineering with emphasis on seismic design.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License

Desired:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering-Civil or equivalent experience
  • Experience in utility operations, electric
  • Key contributor whose professional achievements and technical abilities have received company and/or industry recognition
  • Expertise in civil engineering concepts, theories and practices
  • Depth and breadth of knowledge of civil engineering concepts theories and practices as applied to an electric utility
  • Expertise in transmission line design, system operation and T&D planning experiences are pluses
  • Ability to produce technical procedures and documentation
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Proficient with MS Professional Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Strong project management knowledge and skills to effectively lead diverse teams and complex projects
