Department Overview

Electric Asset Management is responsible for the electric system engineering and planning, asset strategy, and risk management across transmission, distribution, and substation asset families. This centralized, risk-informed approach allows PG&E to manage electric risk, asset and system health, interconnections, and performance by using consistent standards, work methods, prioritization, and program sponsorship, while leveraging lessons learned from inspections and asset data to inform asset management decisions. The organization is accountable for asset planning and strategy, standards and work methods, and asset data management for Electric. The Asset Knowledge Management (AKM) team, within Electric Asset Management, is responsible for the management, quality, and access of PG&E’s electric asset data. The team’s objective is to maximize the use and ensure the trustworthiness of PG&E’s critical electric data assets.

Position Summary

The Expert Product Manager within the DM&A Product Management organization plays a central role in managing the client centered delivery of Electric data products that reduce risk and improve operations. Through cross functional collaboration, this individual will lead the discovery, intake, and prioritization of data products relative to business needs. Leveraging agile approaches, the Expert Product Manager will research and define problem statements, use cases, and functional requirements for product development. Upon project completion, this role will facilitate integration of products into operations to ensure product value delivery.

  • Deep knowledge of Electric Operations business, Data Management principles, and PG&E System Architecture
  • Ability to use understanding of the business to drive strategic decision-making
  • Ability to coordinate across asset/initiative owners, technical resources, leadership
  • Ability to build strong, cross-functional partnerships and drive alignment and engagement around change
  • Asset management background (utility or otherwise)
  • Appreciates and maintains attention to detail – not afraid to ask probing questions to better understand process

Job Responsibilities

Product Management

  • Lead discovery, intake, and prioritization of data products in alignment with business needs
  • Perform benchmarking for alternative approaches and insights
  • Develop business cases to articulate product need and value drivers
  • Develop prioritized project plans, product roadmaps, and resource assignments for multiple products
  • Apply Agile methodologies to research and define user problem statements, use cases, and functional requirements for multiple products
  • Review all product deliverables to assure the offering is complete and meets customer and operational needs
  • Develop documentation and procedures for the product

Value Realization

  • Focus on end-user experience, incorporating needs and features that drive a roadmap to deliver their vision
  • Develop post-delivery support plan to ensure products maintain long term support upon initial project completion
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and oversee development milestones with transparency through reporting; appropriately involve necessary stakeholders for changes in processes or technology requirements
  • Manage a continuous improvement cycle to improve efficacy and value realization

Strategic Planning

  • Align business need, technology and user readiness, and regulatory policy to develop and execute plans towards data product development
  • Support regulatory activities by writing testimony, responding to data requests, meeting with regulators and other IOUs, and providing content for regulatory filings, including the Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP)



  • Bachelor’s Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience
