Department Overview

PG&E's Electric Strategy & Asset Management (ESAM) is responsible for developing the electric distribution asset strategy and asset development.  ESAM is responsible for managing and improving performance of the electric distribution assets from a long and short-term, reliability and asset-centric perspective, partner with internal departments and cross-functional teams to establish the safest, most reliable, and cost-effective electric distribution infrastructure system and may communicate with regulators, customers and other external stakeholders to advance PG&E’s objectives.

Position Summary

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

The Senior Consulting Electric Distribution Engineer is a recognized expert within the area of responsibility, identifies opportunities and brings in ideas to help improve company performance. and applies extensive knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices to resolve complex problems with only general direction.

This position will be responsible for developing the high-level strategies and programs required to maintain and modernize the electric grid allowing for safe, resilient and efficient operations. This position will include leading a cross functional team of internal and consulting participants being tasked with leading the transition of a project from development and testing to being operational for each phase of each project.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

The annual salary range is:

CA minimum, $173,856

CA maximum, $213,624

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently completes assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards.
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert in in Wildfire Mitigation and Design applications.
  • Work closely with the Wildfire Community Safety PMO to coordinate the development and implementation of Distribution wildfire system strategies.
  • Work closely with the Distribution Standards group, ATS, and the Distribution Asset Strategy group to coordinate the Wildfire System Hardening Design improvements.
  • Provides leadership, direction and assistance to a cross-functional team in the field scoping process.
  • Develop an effective and comprehensive communication plan that includes the impacted employees and leadership team.
  • Technical lead in assigned data requests, wildfire mitigation plan, and associated reporting efforts.
  • Benchmark with peer utilities and industry organizations as assigned.
  • Travel throughout system, communicating deployment and training plan/messages to regional and division teams as required.
  • Must support and hold self and other employees accountable for implementation of the safety pledge, USP 22, the code of safe practices and the safety accountability model.
  • Partner with leadership, peers, staff departments and matrix organizations to improve overall business results

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering from a college/university accredited by ABET
  • Current California PE license
  • 13 years of cumulative experience in engineering, planning and/or operations.

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in business, Engineering, or Science
  • Project management knowledge and skills to effectively lead complex projects
  • Leadership skills with demonstrated ability to develop and lead teams
  • Knowledge of power systems, power flow analysis, power system theory, voltage stability, and transmission, substation and distribution planning and operations
