Organization Overview

The Operations Support function provides shared support functions across Gas Operations and Electric Operations and oversees a diverse department that includes Work and Resource Planning, Business Operations and Process Improvement, Execution Support, PG&E Academy, and Enterprise Public Works. The function ensures that initiatives are in line with strategic priorities, with a focus on supporting internal customers, and ensures that processes are standardized across Gas Operations and Electric Operations and continuously improved upon through engagement with execution teams.

Department Overview

Within Operations Support, the Work and Resource Planning department is responsible for consolidating work plans from numerous upstream sources including Asset Strategy, Investment Planning, and Business Finance to build balanced Gas and Electric work and resource plans for execution by the field. The department serves as a central facilitator of work assignments to execution teams and ensures all authorized work is executed successfully to meet business priorities, customer commitments, compliance obligations, and financial goals.

Position Summary

The Senior Director of Work and Resource Planning reports directly to the Vice President of Operations Support and is responsible for overseeing the creation, implementation, publication and measurement of work and resource plans for all internal and external execution resources across Electric Operations (EO). This leadership position will focus on supporting the Electric Operations execution team but will have cross-over responsibility to drive consistency and standardization of work management processes across Electric and Gas. This includes leading the resource loading for the book of work, development of the headcount plan and workforce and contracting strategy. The Senior Director will serve as an advisor to senior leaders in EO and be matrixed to the head of EO for the purpose of work planning and execution. The leader will also oversee cross-functional teams to produce a new Work Plan Delivery Center to drive effective work execution to meet safety, quality, cost, and delivery on time performance measures.

Salary

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $178,000

Bay Area Maximum: $304,000

&/OR

California Minimum: $169,000

California Maximum: $289,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Builds resource-balanced work plans to meet regulatory and customer commitments
  • Identifies bundling efficiencies to optimize field execution, unlocking larger volumes of construction ready work
  • Refreshes rolling work and resource plans monthly and ensures work plan adherence
  • Maintains work plan stability following change control standard for in-year changes
  • Ensures a balanced approach to meeting public safety, regulatory commitments, customer service, and reliability objectives
  • Continuously strives to improve performance and reduce waste by simplifying processes, alleviating administrative burden on first lines, and improving technology and tools in collaboration with other Functional Areas
  • Serves as a liaison between Operations and Engineering, Planning and Strategy
  • Provides strategic guidance and direction for optimal resourcing to execute the EO work plan, including use of contracting at competitive market rates
  • Works with senior leadership to drive strategic planning, informed decision-making, and contingency planning
  • Influences all levels of management to ensure organizational goals are met
  • Possesses versatile functional expertise in areas including but not limited to: lean operating system, work management processes, asset risk management, regulatory strategy, electric work methods & procedures, and union engagement
  • Regularly travels the service territory to meet with coworkers to communicate company goals and business updates, as well as gather feedback and ideas. Partners with Human Resources to meet engagement and diversity goals.

Background Qualifications

Minimum

  • Direct experience leading utility maintenance and construction teams; strong functional expertise in electric operations
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, business administration or comparable quantitative field or equivalent related work experience.
  • 10 years of relevant work experience with steady progression of responsibilities.
  • 8 years of supervisory/managerial experience.

Desired

  • Master’s degree in engineering, economics, business administration or equivalent quantitative field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or certificate
  • Deep experience with and understanding of SAP AMLTD, SAP AMBBS, P6 and other work management systems used in Electric & Gas Operations and the underlying data issues in each.
  • Experience leading IT project development, rollout, support and change management
  • Familiarity with current work and resource planning tools and reports used in both Electric & Gas Operations
  • Demonstrated success in developing new operational capabilities.
  • 5 years of experience in Work and Resource Planning & Scheduling
  • LSS Green Belt or equivalent training in lean management
