Department Overview

The Electric Mapping Team is responsible for maintaining and updating maps containing electric facility information.  The electric mapping organization records and maintains information for over 141,000 miles of underground and overhead electric distribution lines, encompassing over 83,000 maps. The recording and maintenance of this information is a critical component in providing safe and reliable service to customers and a safe working environment for our employees.

Position Summary

The Electric Mapping leaders oversee the management of the electric maps including development of mapping standards, training, process control, metrics, quality assurance and quality controls and audits, customer inquiries and requests, technical support, and process improvement projects. The leaders ensure maps of all electric assets are updated whenever facilities in the field are constructed or replaced.

Occasional travel to offices in area or region: this includes the Bay, Central Valley, and Central Coast area offices.

Position Location - Sacramento or Concord

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees the recording of all electric asset equipment in an area or region
  • Manages and prioritizes local staff workload; provides day to day direction of staff
  • Ensures receipt of asset documentation and/or electronic information resulting from field work from maintenance and construction groups, either new installations or changes
  • Ensures staff is completing mapping data entry work on time, following quality standards and compliance requirements
  • Uses reports and dashboards to monitor work and productivity for their team
  • Provides timely feedback and encouragement to staff and stakeholders
  • Partners with Manager to develop department goals and metrics. Works with team to establish plans to accomplish department goals
  • May have responsibilities focused on change management and communications related to roll out of system updates or upgrades
  • Participates in the design and/or implementation of quality assurance processes and quality controls into all mapping processes
  • May own or be the lead on a particular department process in terms of administration and process analysis/activity tracking, documentation, process mapping and improvement
  • Develops ideas for improvement and leads implementation
  • Monitors/Tracks team expenses vs. budget, explains any variance to manager
  • Maintains good relations with the ESC Union.  Attends quarterly meetings with ESC business representatives

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Primarily bargaining unit mapping technicians
  • Supervises staff to accomplish results through effective recruiting and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • 5 years of related experience in one or more of the following areas: service planning, construction, mapping and/or a leadership type role

Desired:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field such as Geography or Business
  • Strong leadership skills to form and lead teams in a collaborative environment
  • PG&E specific experience in gas or electric mapping
  • GIS Professional (GISP), ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Certification, Professional level, or higher
  • General knowledge in electric utility mapping concepts, practices and techniques including technical knowledge of GIS applications
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal, including presentation skills
  • Interpersonal and influencer skills to manage issue resolution
