Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers.  As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

The Station Engineering team in Bishop Ranch is responsible for leading the Engineering and Design of dual asset Regulator Stations, SCADA retrofit, HPR/farm taps and LVC/LVCR projects.

Position Summary

This position is represented by Engineers & Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

This position is part of a highly motivated engineering and technical team of engineers and senior engineers, reporting to the Station Engineering Supervisor in the DPM&E organization.  The Senior Gas Distribution Engineer will be responsible for the scoping, Engineering and Design of capital distribution and dual asset station projects, provide technical field support and assist in special engineering projects related to station engineering and civil design.

Job Responsibilities

  • Safety: incorporate safety into work practice for design review and for engineering staff
  • Provide engineering, technical guidance, calculations, reviews and provide the professional stamp for engineering designs as assigned, including, regulator stations, farm taps, large volume meter sets.
  • Engineering pre-design: perform site visits with other PG&E departments to confirm the feasibility of the proposed design.
  • Ensure all engineering designs meet applicable Industry standards, federal codes and PG&E gas standards.
  •  Work collaboratively with other PG&E groups and organizations that are part of the project team including GSP, PLE, Project Management, Land, Environmental, Customer Care, Gas Control and Construction to insure the success of the Gas Distribution SCADA Project
  •  Explore and implement innovative solutions that will assure the quality of the station engineering and design projects and assure that they are completed on time, on budget and provides best in class engineering design.

Qualifications

Minimum:

       •  A BS or higher degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology 

       •  Eight years of cumulative experience in engineering and design

Desired:

  • Eight years of cumulative experience in engineering and design in oil or gas industry
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • 8 years of work experience in civil engineering or structural engineering
  • Knowledge and understanding of gas industry rules and regulations (49 CFR192) 
  • Valid California P.E. (Professional Engineer) in Civil or Mechanical
  • Knowledge and understanding of PG&E Gas Standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of gas industry rules and regulations (49 CFR192)
  • Knowledge and understanding of PG&E Gas Standards
