Department Overview

PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Position Summary

Headquarters flexible throughout the PG&E Power Generation service territory.

Hybrid: 25%-30% in the field, 25%-30% in the office, 40%-50% at home (must be in California). 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​122,000

Bay Area Maximum: $​194,000

&/OR​

California Minimum: $​116,000

California Maximum: $184,000

  • Work with Asset Management to build out a Hydro Asset Inspection Coordination Program.
  • Build and lead cross functional teams (ATS, Engineering, SMEs, Operations, etc.) to develop technically informed and comprehensive asset inspection programs.  
  • Coordinate and manages asset inspection requirements and procedures.
  • Write contract specifications for Hydro asset inspections.
  • Develop and manage contracts to perform asset inspections.
  • Create and administer training for contract inspectors and inspection stakeholders.
  • Ensure inspection contractors deliver complete and quality reports.
  • Plan and coordinate inspection plans with Area leadership, Outage Planning, and Outage Management.  
  • Ensure inspection results requiring short or long-term corrective actions are entered into SAP for disposition.       
  • Coordinate SAP WM H1 notification Maintenance Planning department on creation.
  • Manages aspects of program implementation and operations.  Ensures program is operating effectively.  Responsibilities typically include some or most of the following in support of Program Management to ensure attainment of program metrics/objectives.
  • Managing relationship with and providing direction to vendor(s)
  • Developing and monitoring budgets and forecasts.
  • Developing, measuring, and reporting on success of the program  
  • Identifying and maintaining strong working relationships with all strategic programs and partners
  • Partnering with Regulatory and Compliance staff to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and support regulatory activities by supplying information for filings, data requests, and meeting with regulators.
  • Identifying stakeholders and communicate within PG&E    
  • Developing and/or implementing policies and procedures
  • Identifying new partners, technologies, and delivery channels 

Responsibilities:

  • Report out on asset inspections including progress and upcoming or completed inspections.
  • Ensure inspection contractors are trained to lock onto clearances and have taken required contractor safety training.   
  • Applies broad expertise and advanced knowledge to wide-ranging issues.
  • May act as a team lead and provide direction to less experienced employees.
  • Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.
  • Communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences using a variety of media.
  • Integrates industry knowledge related to data into everyday business practices and decision making. 
  • Provides others with guidance around complex industry regulatory and compliance environment and considerations.
  • Creates new and complex data models to facilitate business decisions.
  • Provides direction on overall program.
  • Performs in-depth quality assurance final reviews and contract drafts.
  • Develops new or revises existing scopes of work to ensure compliance standards and deliverables are established.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business
  • 8 years of related experience or equivalent

Desired Qualifications:

  • PMP Certification or demonstrated Project Management experience.
  • Experience in writing contract specifications.
  • Proficient contract management skills.
  • Knowledge of claims management process.    
  • SAP PM experience or similar computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).  
  • Proficient with GIS, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneNote, VISIO.
  • Ability to adapt and manage changing and competing priorities.
  • Travel as required to ensure the successful implementation of the Asset Management Inspection Program.
  • PMP Certification
  • Advanced knowledge of Program Management
  • Ability to influence leaders inside and outside of the department through data analysis, insights and recommendations.
  • Ability to lead large and complex projects working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to create compelling business cases based on complex business environments and inputs.
  • Adept at addressing issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Primarily office environment with extensive use of personal computers, telephone conversations, conference calls and in person meetings.
