Department Overview

The Materials and Distribution Operations Department is responsible for the management of warehouse operations and distribution for goods and services. We provide materials services that are valued by our company partners while continuing to focus on safety, customer satisfaction and cost management; approximately $800M of inventory. Warehouse Operations is responsible for the management of three materials distribution centers, the Port of Stockton Pipe Yard, Stockton pipe, valve, and fitting facility, and the oversight of our third party (S&S) Stockton pipe facility.

Position Summary

You will be working in the Fremont warehouse (not a “work from home” position). The hours of the position are 0600 AM-1430 PM, Monday through Friday.

You will be responsible for overseeing PG&E’s Warehouse Operations and Materials activities consisting of Inbound, Outbound, Internal, and Transportation functions. You will Supervise assigned operations to meet or exceed client requirements while controlling costs, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and actively manages operation(s) in accordance with PG&E’s corporate values. You will also safeguard company assets and ensure that all tasks are performed safely and responsibly.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 


A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $102,000.00
Bay Area Maximum: $162,000.00

Job Responsibilities

  • Process Improvement: Engages in benchmarking activities and professional Supply Chain organizations to facilitate continuous improvements within the department. Establishes, documents and tracks performance metrics, including identifying process improvement opportunities. Determines ways to improve processes and continue cost savings within Materials Operations. Performs Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify the reasons for failures and implements corrective actions to prevent recurrences.
  • Relationship Building: Partners with internal clients on issue resolution. Leads or participates in special assignments, including implementing IT solutions and/or Transformation initiatives/pilots. Teams closely with Strategic Sourcing on managing vendor performance and improving forecasting accuracy. Partners and collaborates with internal clients and suppliers to execute integrated demand/supply plans. Partners with internal clients and other business partners on issue resolution. Teams closely with Purchasing and internal clients on business relationships with vendors. Develops and communicates business plans and strategies to all stakeholders (clients, employees & other).
  • Safety: Takes personal responsibility to maintain a safe work environment by aiding and encouraging others to act safely. Integrates safety into work processes and measure results. Recognizes and appropriately rewards work group for achieving results. Communicates and trains employees for Facility Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP) and Spill Prevention Counter Containment (SPCC). Thoroughly investigates accidents and analyzes near misses and communicate findings. Actively participates on Safety Team. Proactively communicates “Safety Pledge”. Supports enterprise-wide efforts during emergency situations (i.e. storms, natural disasters, etc.), including working with warehouse distribution and suppliers on expediting materials.
  • Supervise, coach, manage performance, and mentor a staff. Develop and train employees on Supply Chain best practices. Monitor productivity and costs and take corrective action when necessary. Manage Safety and compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Technical & Financial: Manages and monitors budget process. Operates within PCC budget by implementing efficiencies to achieve target reductions. Ensures facility is in compliance with SOX-404 and ORM regulations. Works with the Business Processes & Quality Assurance group in creating and maintaining policies, procedures, and adequate internal controls. Works with the Business Processes & Quality Assurance group to ensure compliance with all external and internal financial, legal, and environmental requirements. Meets cost and schedule commitments. Establishes, documents and tracks performance metrics, including identifying corrective action plans to meet departmental goals. Provides regular status updates to senior management and other reporting groups.
  • Transportation: Manages the overall logistics and transportation operations for PG&E’s Materials Distribution organization. Manages the overall movement of inbound freight to PG&E from suppliers, outbound freight transported by PG&E’s dedicated contract carriers (i.e. PG&E drivers), 3rd party common and contract carriers, and small package carriers. Lead the day-to-day operation of PG&E’s express courier service (Pony Express) while streamlining and executing the operation long term strategies. Provide on-call emergency response for freight transportation.
  • Warehouse Operations and Materials Field Services: Manages Facilities, Personnel, Equipment and Inventories to ensure that client requirements are met or exceeded, and that budgetary target are achieved. Maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements and ensures that all facilities and equipment are maintained in safe conditions and that all employees work safely. Analyzes processes to identify opportunities for improvements and develops/implements corrective action plans. Actively works to develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients and suppliers. Recommends capital expenditures and provides input into budgeting process.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • 4 years of supply chain experience such as in warehousing, planning, purchasing, or inventory management and/or as a supervisor in any industry 


Desired:

  • Experience in a position responsible for directing employees such as drivers and materials handlers.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, supply chain management, business, or another related field
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (Preferred: SAP)
  • Knowledge of process improvement disciplines (TQM, Lean, LSS)
  • Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
