Department Overview

The CPUC Compliance team is part of the Electric Operations Electric Regulatory Compliance department in Electric Engineering, where our vision is that together create a compliance culture in Electric Operations that supports and exceeds safety, reliability, and customer and regulator expectations. CPUC Compliance is critical to achieving that vision with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and our customers.  The CPUC Compliance team is responsible for processing all CPUC regulatory compliance activities for PG&E’s electric transmission and distribution operations.   

Position Summary

This role supports the risk/compliance framework which enables the organization to operate in compliance with applicable standards, laws and regulations as determined by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) Electric Safety and Reliability Branches (ESRB); investigate potential regulatory code noncompliance issues and procedural nonconformances, prepare reports summarizing findings, prepare and deliver annual reports to the CPUC; identify, manage, and mitigate operational risk; drive efforts to improve compliance maturity in the electric functional areas, conducting compliance and risk assessments of the Electric functional areas, and helping the electric functional areas to plan for new and changing compliance obligations; and help develop and maintain the framework in response to changes to laws, regulations, and standards.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland based on business needs. Current department expectation has staff in the office at least 1 day per week for regular work and additionally as needed for business needs.

 PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​118,000

Bay Area Midpoint: $153,000

Bay Area Maximum: $​188,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory policy and compliance concepts.
  • Clearly articulates recommendations and findings in both written and oral communications.
  • Works with all levels of leadership across functions to provide relevant compliance information and direction for decision making.
  • Leads the company response regulatory data requests, investigations, audits, and other inquiries.
  • Develops and presents alternatives and strategies for responding to requests from various internal/external sources for information (including interpretation, clarification, background, analysis, and recommendations) to leader or more experienced co-workers.
  • Conducts non-standard research and analysis for information requests determining the best sources, approaches, or analytical methods to meet the request/need.
  • Conducts data analysis and modeling to ensure alignment with timeliness and metrics operating and customer experience.
  • Identifies individual data anomalies and develops remedies and resolutions to ensure accurate, complete, and timely analysis reporting.
  • May support the preparation of strategic briefing materials, summaries, communications, and recommendations for PG&E and regulators.
  • May support the monitoring and governance of implemented corrective actions regarding commitment and corrective actions to compliance issues.         
  • Collaborates with leadership and team to coordinate the status of plans and workflow for future projects.
  • Provides expertise to leadership and cross-functional teams regarding development, implementation, and monitoring of controls and mitigation plans.
  • Develops compelling data-driven business cases for or against specific courses of action and potential risk mitigation alternatives as appropriate.
  • Regularly updates leadership on changes to requirements/standards, metrics, program effectiveness, and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 7+ years

Desired:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in compliance/risk management, 4 years.
  • Demonstrates broad expertise and applies advanced knowledge to wide- ranging compliance and/or risk management issues.
  • Expert level knowledge of assigned area of business including processes and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of and ability to apply internal control concepts and/or risk analysis & assessment.
  • Strong problem solving, project management, and change.
