Department Overview
PG&E’s Information Technology (IT) organization is comprised of various unified departments which collaborate effectively in order to deliver high quality technology solutions.
The Digital Catalyst Team within IT is responsible for working collaboratively with the lines of business (e.g., Gas Operations, Electric Operations, etc.) to implement consumer grade mobile and web solutions across various user groups (e.g., field users, office workers, etc.). This includes, but is not limited to:
- Deploying best-in-class / rapid delivery capability for mobile and web solutions
- Simplifying, improving, and standardizing business work management processes through application of user-centric design thinking principles
- Rapid delivery of mobile and web applications

Position Summary
Seeking a Technical Manager with a zeal for mobile technology to make impactful contributions at PG&E. This multifaceted role requires a balance of deep iOS technical expertise and operational management skills, as it involves enhancing the core functionalities of applications used by a vast number of field personnel. The focus is on providing technical guidance and fostering growth within the iOS Core team, as well as among the broader product engineering teams. This includes collaboration with Product Owners, Development Leads, and Operational Support teams. The role demands innovative problem-solving and the ability to lead technical discussions with various IT and Business units.
The operational management aspect of this role involves overseeing the day-to-day activities that ensure the smooth functioning of mobile applications. This includes task delegation, progress monitoring, and resource allocation to maintain and enhance application performance. Additionally, the manager would be responsible for strategizing operational improvements, streamlining processes, and ensuring that the applications meet the evolving needs of the field users. Effective communication and leadership are key, as the role requires coordination with multiple teams to achieve operational excellence.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and the Oakland General Office(OGO) based on business needs.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $140,000
Bay Area Maximum: $238,000
Responsibilities
Management / Leadership (~40%)
- Leads the technical development/engineering teams responsible for the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications
- Manages the identification, analysis, valuation, and execution of system investments for product support operations
- Leads tech design reviews; governs service introduction criteria, DR etc.
- Accountable for overall product portfolio performance and recommends changes in investment mix to achieve goals
- Measurably reduces technical debt
- Assists with modernizing, developing, prioritizing, coordinating, and providing operational support and maintenance for foundational iOS applications
- Leads, sets standards for, and validates the work performed by a team of iOS codebase, frameworks, change and release management, and other hands-on technical staff in the successful fulfillment of IT delivery commitments
- Establishes individual and department objectives that are aligned with organization goals
- Provides performance feedback and guidance to employees
- Establishes Development Plans for employees, including measurable growth in communication and technical skills
Customer Relationship: (~30%)
- Acts as a liaison for information flow between the departmental team, IT, business community, and external stakeholders.
- Manages the resolution of technical risks/issues, including AWS, Cyber, Analytics, and external-facing products.
- Conducts users/business communications, timely updates, sets expectations and delivers on commitments
- Prioritizes important development work for successful delivery
Strategy: (~30%)
- Helps manage the execution of technology roadmaps
- Develops, prioritizes, coordinates, and communicates the technical goals and processes necessary for implementing solutions and products
- Achieves results through others by setting and communicating goals and metrics, and then monitoring progress
- Provides ongoing coaching and feedback, and reinforcing behaviors that drive high performance and a strategic focus
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience working/leading in application development and architecture
- Minimum 4 years exposure to mobile development
- Hands on experience with AWS technologies
- Exposure to enterprise applications and ERP systems (e.g. SAP)
Desired:
- Experience working as an Agile/Technical Lead in an Agile environment
- Experience with GIS is a plus
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills and a strong work ethic
- Very strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Able to build strong relationships with and influence at the Sr. Manager and Director level of leadership
- Able to build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a comfortable & effective workplace
- Able to further community & elevate team performance
- Brings a high-energy and passionate outlook to the role and has strong sense of ownership
