Position Summary

Performs Vegetation Management Qualification assessments of employees in certain technical or craft roles to ensure and promote skill competence and overall public and employee safety. Facilitates and administers various types of tests or assessments to determine if employees performing Vegetation Management work are performing their job functions correctly and safely.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 A reasonable salary range is:​
Bay Area Minimum: $102,000
Bay Area Maximum: $152,000
&/OR​
California Minimum: $97,000
California Maximum: $144,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Proctors and performs VM Assessments at the required level that will focus on a specific area of skill/knowledge including, but not limited to, any task(s) preformed within vegetation management work that may involve chainsaw use, tree felling, climbing, and cutting aloft, limbing and bucking, aerial lift and chipper.
  • Coaches the performance and administration of initial and subsequent complex and non-routine Assessments, written or computer-based assessments and field observations of knowledge and skills including new and/or difficult skills and techniques, working independently.
  • Coaches the preparation of employees for the entire qualification process, both written/computer testing and field observation, through effective communication and tail boarding.  Ensures employees understand the purpose and process.
  • Shares outcomes, observations, trends, gaps and issues with direct supervisor, the employee’s supervisor and/or manager that contribute to the development and implementation of mitigating strategies as needed.
  • Addresses gaps and issues identified to improve Assessments, coaching tools, process, and/or materials.
  • Ensures the assessment/qualification processes are followed, and qualification records are maintained in compliance with qualification program requirements.
  • Contributes to the enhancement of new assessment/qualification tests and processes.
  • Collaborates with stakeholder groups to ensure appropriate process/asset recommendations are being implemented and maintained.
  • Capable of Coaching less experienced team members.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPR / First Aid
  • OSHA 30
  • Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP)
  • Electric Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP)
  • Five (5) years of experience in arboriculture industry
  • One (1) year in trainer or safety position
  • Five (5) years performing work relevant to assessments

Desired:

  • Any technical or continued education in related field. (Forestry / utility Veg Mgmt / logging).
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Credentials.
  • OSHA 30 (with focus in Elec Power).
  • Utility line clearance.
  • Three (3) years heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Thorough understanding of specific work methods and procedures, including all safety practices.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coach and provide feedback.  
  • Leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Logging Regulations, ANSI Z133 Standards and PG&E Safe Work Practices.
  • Can perform assessments on others.

Supplemental Minimum:

  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time. May be required to stay overnight.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. 
  • Skills/knowledge capable of passing all assessments/tests.
  • Ability to perform an aerial rescue. 
  • Strong knowledge in technical discipline for which incumbent is providing assessments.
