Department Overview
PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Position Summary
Headquarter location flexible throughout the PG&E service territory. This position is "hybrid" with the current expectaiton of being in the office 1x/week, but mostly in the field (subject to change due to business needs).
This position plays an important role in supporting all aspects of the contract lifecycle development and management, which includes contract manager program development, solicitation, negotiation, amendments, valuation, operational implementation, dispute resolution, administration and termination. Manages major contracts for Power Generation. Works closely with key operations departments and key functions including project managers, construction managers, engineering, legal, sourcing, contracts and others to ensure that all contracts for projects are enforced per the general and project-specific conditions. Serves as subject matter expert on assigned contracts, coordinates with legal, functional area and supply chain reviews as necessary, builds and maintains relationships with critical supplier representatives. Assists in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process by providing input on work scope, evaluating bids, and helping to negotiate contract terms for the acquisition of services.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $129,000
Bay Area Maximum: $207,000

California Minimum: $123,000
California Maximum: $197,000
Responsibilities:
- Supports Power Generation on complex cross-functional projects and contracts
- Advises senior leadership (internal and external) on contracting strategy and negotiations.
- Assists in the negotiation of complex contract issues. Leads the effort to identify, analyze, improve existing business processes, and create new business processes within the department to meet goals and objectives.
- Works closely with key project stakeholders.
- Acts as a primary liaison for the contracts team to PG&E’s Legal Department.
- Provides active guidance, support, mentorship and training to contract management staff.
- Develops and delivers contract management training to all stakeholders.
- Single point of contact for the Enterprise Contract Management Program.
- Collaborates with other PG&E Functional Areas to promote knowledge sharing and use and development of best practices.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, engineering or related degree; or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of eight years of related work experience
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Construction Management or related discipline
- Certification such as one of the following or related:
-Project Management Professional (PMP)
-Professional Engineering License (PE)
-Program Management Professional (PgMP)
- Lean six sigma certification, green or black belt
- Experience in major construction project controls, cost estimating, and scheduling.
- Experience with quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) regarding contract documents.
- Possess strong written and verbal skills with the ability to tailor communications to specific audiences.
- Possesses and demonstrates a full working knowledge of the contract management lifecycle.
- Experience with process development, review, and continuous improvement.
- Utility industry experience.
- Subject matter expertise with composition, management, administration, and negotiation of contracts and change orders
- Ability to apply business knowledge, project management methodologies, and best practices.
- Ability to manage conflict constructively with a win-win resolution in mind.
- Knowledge of budget and resource allocation and formulation of contracts, bids, agreements, and RFPs.
- Analytical, critical, and technical thinking skills. .
- Ability to develop reports, models, and simulations.
- Prioritizes workload independently based on department priorities and goals.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and contract information systems and applications (e.g. Ariba, SAP, scheduling software).
