Position Summary

The DCPP Safety Team is responsible for ensuring safe field practices and addressing performance gaps. The team collaborates closely with power plant personnel to enhance understanding and implementation of safe work practices. The Safety Supervisor plays a key role in daily operations, supporting planning activities and outage coordination.


As a people leader, the supervisor promotes adherence to all company and regulatory safety policies and procedures. Operational safety personnel investigate safety and human performance incidents, identify root causes, and develop metrics to monitor future performance. Finally, the team consistently reinforces the organization's safety culture and associated behaviors.

To obtain and maintain employment, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check for unescorted access to a nuclear plant, psychological screen, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening in fulfillment of federal requirements.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:​

California Minimum:  $120,000

California Maximum: $190,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures daily operations are executed in accordance with established procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Plans, manages, and oversees the activities of a team that provides safety support to Diablo Canyon Power Plant.
  • Partners with team members to achieve results in development, performance management, and recognition programs.
  • Supervises team members ensuring timely completion of training, corrective actions and surveys.
  • Provides strategic direction and oversight for human performance improvement initiatives and processes.
  • Establishes and communicates to team a clear understanding of company goals and objectives to ensure alignment with group-level outcomes.
  • Coaches team members on proper human performance behaviors and investigative techniques; ensures timely completion of work and independently conducts complex investigations when necessary.
  • Reviews investigation findings submitted by the team, addresses escalated issues, and escalates complex matters as appropriate.
  • Oversees the team’s use of the injury reporting and corrective action program applications, ensuring accurate data entry, comprehensive investigation logs, and professional-quality incident follow-up.
  • Communicates investigation resolutions to stakeholders.
  • Participates in ongoing reporting activities, including tracking, trending, and evaluating safety and human performance metrics related to corrective action effectiveness.
  • Conducts thorough investigations of work process and human performance errors, applying Human Factor Analysis & Classification System (HFACS) models to identify root causes and assess risk.
  • Determines corrective actions based on investigation outcomes, ensuring proactive measures and well-defined explanations are documented in the appropriate reports.
  • Provides support and contractor oversight during scheduled and unscheduled outages.
  • Proactively communicates human error trend data and investigation analysis findings to Operations Safety and DCPP.
  • Develops and manages contracts and external service vendors as needed to support the DCPP clinic and other organization’s safety and health programs.
  • Collaborates with departments such as PG&E Academy, Methods and Procedures, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control to exchange information and implement recommended changes.
  • Leads the design, development, review, and implementation of innovative, high-quality products, programs, services, and solutions that support existing safety and health management systems, PG&E safety guidance documents, and organizational safety goals.
  • Lead the creation of a strategic program/project hat aligns with the organization’s long-term goals and addresses current performance gaps.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Management or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 4 years of relevant Safety experience 

Desired:

  • 4 years of people leader experience
  • Experience in Nuclear
  • Experience in O&M-Operations and Maintenance
  • CUSP- Certified Utility Safety Professional certification
  • CSP- Certified Safety Professional certification
  • ASP- Associate Safety Professional certification
