Department Overview
Security Systems supports the safe, secure, and compliant operation of Diablo Canyon Power Plant by ensuring nuclear security processes, systems, and programs are maintained to the highest standards. The team is responsible for site security technology, regulatory compliance, data integrity and reporting, performance monitoring, digital process improvements, and cross-functional support to both Security Programs and Security Operations.
Position Summary
The Security Systems Internship position is located within the Protected Area of DCPP. Security Systems selects, deploys, and maintains cutting edge security technology to protect public safety, supports operability of the power plant, and ensures all federal regulations are met. This team has industry leading expertise related to networked and analog security technologies. The plant utilizes a combination of proprietary and “commercial of the shelf” (COTS) security solutions.
The Security Systems Internship position will support Security System Administrators in trending data, design review, equipment obsolescence, SQL script generation and review, and aiding in procedure revisions. Work may range from general technical consultation or comprehensive support from planning through production implementation of new technology solutions.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $23.08 to $36.42.
Responsibilities
Supporting senior staff with:
Security equipment obsolescence trending
Alarm rate trending and monitoring
SQL database review and modifications
Security documentation review
Security system design review
Security procedure development and revision
SGI documentation review
The successful intern will have the opportunity to learn about these activities as described above, working with a team of experienced security system administrators and technicians. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Nuclear Security Organization, Cyber Security, Maintenance, and Operations through the work they will be performing.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science or related degrees
Students MUST be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship
Desired:
3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
Preferred majors: Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, or Cybersecurity.
Experience with SQL Server, cameras, video analytics, or detection technology
Experience with design review, or reading design drawings
Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
Additional Notes:
Intern responsibilities will require obtaining SGI and Critical Group qualifications
Intern will follow the standard Monday–Friday 5/8 schedule in accordance with PG&E intern policy.
