Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

Provide GIS and database support for the implementation of risk management duties. Responds to queries and resolves technical issues. Lead and/or support the preparation of annual regulatory reports.

Provide analytical support for leak survey operations. This role supports the Gas Business Analysis team by performing general data analysis tasks, outside of GIS-specific work, focused on AMLD planning, data review, and reporting. Responsibilities include responding to data queries, resolving technical issues, and supporting the preparation of various reports.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and assigned location, subject to change per business needs.

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $ 93,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)          $ 127,600.00

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide user support with GIS tools / functionality.
  • Provide GIS support and data integration.
  • Support Leak Survey operations with non-GIS analytical support.
  • Gather, integrate, and convert data from various sources into geospatial databases.
  • Develop and perform data gathering, data integration and quality control procedures for geospatial data, interface with data source systems to resolve issues.
  • Respond to requests for GIS queries or maps for special projects.
  • Create and update metadata and catalog GIS layers, including documenting work flow procedures for staff using GIS, both in the office and in the field.
  • Develop and refresh GIS data for PG&E’s external GIS web sites and public outreach programs.
  • Support the preparation of annual reports to FERC, (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), SEC (Security and Exchange Commission), OPS (Office of Pipeline Safety) and CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission).
  • Support enterprise GIS data modeling and data capture initiatives as well as software functionality review.
  • Assess and coordinate GIS software and hardware needs of the department, evaluate new GIS software and databases.
  • Work collaboratively with other work groups and vendors, troubleshoot issues, produce technical communication.
  • Continually identify opportunities for improvement in the way work is done, share expertise and lessons learned.

  • Provide integrity assurance input to the Integrity Management Program group.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • 3 years of experience with GIS applications.
  • 1 year of experience in ArcGIS 9.x or later.

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in engineering, geography, cartography, planning, computer science or related field.
  • Certified GIS Professional
  • Utility or Pipeline industry experience.
  • PODS data model experience.
  • Gas Distribution or Transmission Experience.
  • Integrity Management and Risk Management experience.
  • Knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192
  • Knowledge of PHMSA Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) [Docket No. PHMSA-2011-0023], "Pipeline Safety: Safety of Gas Transmission Pipelines"
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS 9.x or later
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Oracle, or SQL server databases
  • Proficiency in a programming language – Shell script, Python, or Visual Basic
  • Safety record demonstrating safety is a priority for self and team
