Department Overview
This is a key role on a high-performing, dynamic team building the future of PG&E’s electrical grid that will reliably and safely deliver affordable and clean energy to our customers and communities. The Grid Operations, Applications, and Transformation (GOAT) team is dedicated to implementing and maintaining PG&E’sOperational Technology including the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), which is fundamental o a sustainable energy future and the Grid of Tomorrow. We are seeking an accomplished, integrity-driven, diverse, and collaborative individual to take on the critical Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) Senior role.
Position Summary
Ensures the availability, integrity, and reliability of assigned SCADA systems. Provides application solutions, development, advice, and assistance to clients to design, develop, integrate, and maintain SCADA systems. Conducts analysis, programming, troubleshooting, recommending solutions, and implementing fixes associated with SCADA systems and applications. Conducts systems modeling, migration, and administration. Prepares and reviews design documentation. The selected candidate will have to work in either the Fresno, Concord or Rocklin office two days per week, and the remaining three days can be from their home office (within the PG&E service territory).
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $109,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $142,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $175,000.00
- Minimum Base Salary (California) $104,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (California) $135,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (California) $166,000.00
Job Responsibilities
SCADA Operational Consultant and Support:
- Test, install and maintain the SCADA control systems and services associated with Electric distribution SCADA.
- Provide support and advice for SCADA applications.
- Responsible for communication with end-users and vendors for SCADA software enhancements and problems.
- Responsible for providing business analysis perspectives for proposed changes to SCADA applications and associated interfaces.
- Works with real time and historical database administration
- Provide 2nd and 3rd tier support in testing, analyzing, diagnosing and resolving problems associated with these systems.
- Provides support guidance, consultation to System Automation and IT personnel, and operations users in the development and implementation of SCADA.
- Available 24 x 7 for production support of SCADA systems.
- Review requirements and development of SCADA software and hardware.
- Works with business clients to align technical recommendations with business objectives by understanding the strategies and objectives of supported business units
- Work closely with System Automation and TSM&C to test and install SCADA.
- Work closely with operations to monitor existing equipment, real time data and control.
- Use established policies and procedures to support all users of SCADA data and control.
- Update policies and standards as needed.
Data/Control Monitoring/Sharing and Management:
- Monitor and evaluate data and control for operations and engineering.
- Assist in analyzing, diagnosing and resolving problems associated with all SCADA systems.
Engineering Support:
- Provides data as needed for planning and System Automation on new equipment installs.
- Provide input and pre-production testing for any new field equipment or schemes wanted.
Vendor Support:
- Support development of positive relationship with SCADA vendor, end-user, and other stakeholders
- Assists engineering and design by providing testing and analyzing new equipment.
- Assists technicians and analysts, as appropriate, for new designs and protocol testing in a lab environment.
- Works directly with Vendors to test and improve SCADA devices and applications.
Projects:
- Assist System Automation, TSM&C System Reliability and Telecom on SCADA projects.
- Provide on-site or remote support as needed.
- Provide on-site testing of new SCADA equipment and database for all groups.
Training:
- Create and maintain training class curriculum as required, conduct internal classes and work with vendors on new training.
Compliance and Process Improvement 10%:
- Assist with ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Use of best practices and benchmarks to achieve efficient and effective services.
- Applies specific best practices as appropriate continued improvement in core competencies.
- Uses industry recognized approaches, methodologies and techniques specific to competency area to deliver quality real-time control and monitoring solutions
General
- This is a fully experienced SCADA position: incumbent performs SCADA assignments of broad scope and complexity with moderate to high risk and few precedents or standard solutions in an autonomous fashion under general guidance.
- Resolves problems of moderate scope within SCADA procedural guidelines. Seeks assistance from the supervisor or more senior employees on unusual or especially controversial problems. Assignments may provide an opportunity for creative or non- standard approaches.
- The incumbent independently plans SCADA work to meet assigned general objectives; progress is reviewed upon completion and solutions may provide an opportunity for creative/non-standard approaches.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related discipline or equivalent experience or technical training
- 5 years of working with SCADA or other Process Control System in the Power Generation Industry
Desired:
- Experience working with SCADA or process control systems preferred
- Advanced knowledge of one or more of the following systems and standards:
- Electric transmission and distribution
- Gas transmission operations desired
- Hydro generation including FERC licensing requirements
- Knowledge of OSI, RTscada, Citect or Areva display and database building procedures desired
- Ability to evaluate existing and proposed systems and recommend upgrades and/or modifications
- Graphical user interface (GUI) and design skills desired
- Knowledge of computer networking and SCADA protocols desired
- Knowledge of telecommunications systems desire
- Able to establish and document operations procedures
- Ability to research and survey new products and/or releases (e.g., productivity tools)
- Ability to be self-managing and to relish the challenges of problem solving.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and an ability to develop positive relationships with vendors and clients
