Department Overview
The Electric Distribution Reliability team within the overall Electric Asset Management organization is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the resources necessary to successfully execute PG&E’s Electric Distribution Reliability Strategy and initiatives. This team of forward–thinking individuals will be tasked with deploying technology and infrastructure and influencing the organization in order to achieve the company’s reliability goals.The team is responsible for implementing programs required to modernize the electric grid allowing for safe, resilient and efficient operations. The team participates in a cross functional team of internal and consulting participants being tasked with leading the transition of a project from development and testing to being operational for each phase of each project.
Position Summary
The Intern Engineer ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the electric power system by providing innovative engineering support via assignments in asset or component development, reliability analysis and improvement, or long and short term system planning and implementation. The engineer may work on assignments supporting distribution or distribution network systems. This includes gathering reliability information in order to facilitate the development of distribution reliability strategy and metrics. The engineer may be accountable to support budget development, tracking, work plan commitments, projections, and overall financials of assigned reliability improvement programs. The engineer maintains knowledge of and adheres to all company and regulatory safety and quality processes and procedures.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
The hourly rate for a bachelor’s degree ranges from $24.52 to $29.81 and for a master’s degree is $35.37.
Responsibilities
- Works with full guidance to complete assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards, and assignments that require integration of information from a variety of sources.
- Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices in power systems engineering to resolve basic problems.
- Expands breadth of knowledge to other areas of specialty or further develops expertise and specialization in one area (i.e. reliability).
- As assigned, support efforts to review and collect information related to possible ignition events.
- Partner with leadership, peers, staff departments and matrix organizations to improve overall business results.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited University
- Students must be continuing their education towards degree during and/or after the internship
- Must have a valid driver’s license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to start date.
Desired:
- 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
- Planning on pursuing a concentration or has taken coursework in power systems engineering
- General Knowledge of Utility Industry
- Knowledge of power systems, power flow analysis, protection, voltage stability, and distribution planning.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with python and SQL scripts
- Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
