Department Overview
The Applied Technology Services (ATS) Engineering staff provides engineering, testing and analysis services and expertise across multiple disciplines to various company organizations to identify, diagnose and solve technical problems. The staff provides consultation and advice to clients to proactively avoid future problems by specifying equipment, materials and methods that are best practices in the industry. Services include inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on a wide variety of systems and components ranging from in-service concrete to hydroelectric turbine blades to distributed generation. The engineering staff partners with management in the creation of bid proposals for requested client work. The incumbents maintain knowledge of and adhere to all company and regulatory safety and quality processes and procedures.
Position Summary
This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.
The Senior Engineering Technician will be an expert in design, specification, fabrication, construction, operation, and maintenance of laboratory HVAC, hot water, and electrical systems since the entire PTAU laboratory consists of individual test chambers whereby testing of Heat Pump Water Heaters and HVAC systems are conducted.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity.
Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate range for this position is $63.03 to $70.35, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs complex laboratory and field assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a large and more diverse project. May coordinate portions of overall assignments, direct, review, analyze, and integrate the technical work of others.
- Will be required to assist or perform laboratory and field tests, repairs, calibrations, and investigations of a difficult nature on a wide variety of materials and equipment and prepare reports thereon.
- May be required to perform tests in the field without direct supervision, including dielectric testing, and may provide project supervision over other coworkers.
- Performs the work of an Engineering Technician II and other related work duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Associates degree in HVAC & refrigeration, plumbing, electronics technology; OR equivalent education and/or certification defined as successful completion of a union apprenticeship program in HVAC & Refrigeration, electronics technology, plumbing and/or completion of appropriate national certification programs such as Universal EPA certification for refrigerant handling, OEM installation/service certifications
- 7 years of experience in HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing or electronic technology
