Department Overview
Transmission & Substation (T&S) is responsible for the maintenance and construction of the Electric Transmission system, Project and Construction, Generation Interconnections, Work and Resource Management, Compliance and Temporary Generation departments. T&S also executes high-risk maintenance and construction activities to improve public safety and operation of the grid.
Position Summary
The Construction Manager is responsible for construction and improvement projects in the electric transmission system. The Construction Manager identifies contract worthy projects, consults on project feasibility and project site details, coordinates with construction crews, oversees project inspectors, and on a project specific basis performs construction oversight. The incumbent may also prepare job packages and construction estimates, conduct job walks, and meet with bidders, contractors, and governing agencies.
The Construction Manager also ensures projects are completed per company standards, engineering design, regulatory guidelines, permits and schedule.

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.
The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Pay Range:
- Minimum: $123,00
- Midpoint: $160,00
- Maximum: $197,00
Job Responsibilities
- Applies broad expertise to work on projects in multiple disciplines such as civil, electrical, process instrumentation and pipeline construction management with a high degree of knowledge and ability. Works closely with Project Managers and Gas Operation Supervisors to understand construction targets and identify potential contractual projects.
- Compiles and interprets internal drawings and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes, renegotiates contract scope with contractor when needed. Following start of construction, consults and clarifies technical details for contractors, Gas Operation Supervisors and Inspectors while assisting with change orders if needed.
- Attends job scope walk downs, leads job scope discussions and attends 30/60/90 design reviews by Engineering to provide constructability input. Leads formal job walk downs with Project Managers and/or Gas Operation Supervisors to review the IFC (Issued For Construction) drawings and discuss schedule and target dates.
- Addresses all communication and project documentation with contractors and conduct meetings at the job site.
- Monitors daily construction activities and ensures the construction operations meet the program’s safety, quality, cost and schedule goals. Utilize workload management database, update any assigned projects, reviews workload analysis reports for action, and manages full planning team process from inception via request for contract.
- Acts as point of contact for construction contractors, ensures the contractor’s plan and assigned resources are adequate to deliver the highest value. Obtains any information, resources, services or materials needed to maintain the construction work flow, budget and schedule from Project Coordinator, Engineering, Contracts or other internal PG&E teams.
- Acts as Incident Commander and PG&E Representative in the field. Ensures contractors follow safety plans, project environmental/land permits and PG&E safety rules and processes.
- Oversees the Inspection of the construction work. Coordinates the work of field inspectors to ensure adequate coverage of all work performed.
- Communicates any engineering and design issues with Project Coordination and Engineering, seeks or makes decisions on any change affecting cost and schedule according to the DOA. Request is a PG&E GC field engineer to perform site verification of content of test data and other as-built documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Works with Project Managers to establish planning/schedule dates for construction to commence later in the year. Provides mentoring and training to Associate, Career and Senior level employees
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Seven (7) years of experience in the field of Industrial engineering or Construction.
- Travel approximately 50% with occasional overnight stays.
Desired:
- 7 years of experience in the field of Industrial engineering or Construction.
- 9 years working experience in the field of Industrial.
- Engineering or Construction.
- Working Knowledge Primavera.
- P6, Primavera Contracts.
- Manager, Prolog or similar.
- Demonstrated abilities in Cost accounting / Inspection / Contract administration.
- Demonstrated knowledge in Electric Distribution Construction.
- Ability to perform cost and project scheduling.
- Electric Distribution material / construction / standards.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical Distribution construction projects in all disciplines.
- Familiarity with the processes and orientation of construction contracting firms.
- Strong project and people management skills.
- Ability to understand, interpret and communicate civil/electrical work procedures, process instrumentation, work methods, standards, policies, and guidelines.
- Demonstrates skill in achieving cooperation from others in order to achieve a goal.
- Ability to lead teams to perform effectively under deadlines and n emergency situations
- Supports a team in assigned geographic area to ensure the safe, efficient and timely completion of work in compliance with the maintenance requirements of General Order (GO) 165 standards. Integrates GO 165 in the work/document verification process.
- Knowledge of the company’s emergency management processes.
- Ability to lead trainings and coach less experienced employees.
