Department Overview
The Coworkers of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and emergency response.
Position Summary
Lead a dynamic and diverse team of Inspectors, Field Engineers, and other support staff to facilitate compliant construction, inspection, and project closeout for high priority Engineer Procure Construct (EPC) contracted construction projects. Accountable for managing staff, supporting project success, and ensuring contractor compliance to safety and quality plans. Manages priorities of all stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in the most cost effective and efficient manner. The successful candidate must have a commitment to safety, be organized, possess creative problem-solving skills, able to communicate complex issues to senior leadership and customers.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $136,000
Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $232,000
OR
Minimum Base Salary (California) $129,000
Maximum Base Salary (California) $220,000
Job Responsibilities
- Leads and mobilizes teams who are responsible for managing EPC construction projects, ensuring work is completed timely, safely and cost effectively.
- Establishes and maintains budget, ensuring sufficient funding and resources for operations and projects throughout the year.
- Partners with team, peers, staff departments, matrix organizations and outside agencies to improve overall business results.
- Collaborates with team, internal customers/departments, and other stakeholders to develop and implement construction strategies to deliver results.
- Maintains project management portfolio and other support systems to organize team and to efficiently deliver construction management services.
- Leads meetings for process improvement related to safety, quality and productivity, and to resolve systemic issues.
- Develops and maintains standardized and effective strategies, trainings, onboarding and monitoring systems to ensure a qualified and competent employee/ and non-employee workforce.
- Actively participates in reviewing vendor proposals to select key service providers and partners.
- Oversees projects contracted to outside vendors and the associated work inspections.
- Maintains effective relationships with EPC contractors and ensures work is completed within company and regulatory quality and safety standards.
- Oversees inspection scheduling to minimize resource movement and cost. Coordinates with Project Management and EPC Contractors regarding construction schedules, required resources and priorities.
- Identifies potential issues with the project and advises the project manager, engineers, construction crew, and other stakeholders as necessary, on the impact and possible alternatives.
- Ensures as-builts and construction closeout documents are compliant, complete, meet quality standards, and processed in a timely manner.
- Monitors and ensures construction quality standards. Articulates compliance requirements and their impact on the business to employees and contractors.
- Will participate in request for proposals (RFPs), benchmarking and process improvement reviews and activities.
- Supports effective up-front project planning to minimize costs, change orders and maximize efficiency.
- Review incident reports and implement corrective actions.
- Review and approval of all Site Specific Safety Plans submitted EPC Contractors
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or job-related discipline, or equivalent experience
- 8 years of relevant experience in Construction or related
Desired:
- Prior supervisory/managerial experience
- Prior Utility industry experience
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Prior Experience with EPC execution model
- Experience interfacing directly with regulatory and governmental agencies.
- Project management experience
- Experience in managing budgets
- Ability to develop and manage department budgets, expenses, variances
- Ability to communicate and support company and organization policies, procedures, goals, objectives, vision and values
