Position Summary

The Director, Commercial Product Development will develop and lead product management functions for the product portfolio for targeted customers, working cross-functionally to drive of the portfolio to include pricing plans, load management products, grid and non-grid bridging solutions, and other engineering solutions to meet customer needs. The core responsibility of this role is to create and execute the vision for solution engineering strategy and development and optimizing the product portfolio to meet customer and PG&E needs, managing all products throughout the product lifecycle, which includes providing subject matter expertise in all related processes with regulators and stakeholders. The Director leads a team of technical product managers, engineers, and support functions to evaluate and develop new offerings, manage launch of new products, support existing products in the market, and sunset products at end of life to maintain an optimal portfolio.

This position also directs the program management functions for key programs related to customer pricing plans. The core responsibility of this role is to set the strategic vision for the programs, achieve all program deliverables, manage the program budget, and interact with external stake holders related to the program. In addition, the Director will ensure subject matter expertise on the team related to each program’s customer segment, channel, technology family, and/or delivery strategy.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Develop the high-level strategic vision for the product portfolio, including identification of key, strategic partners, business case development, product readiness and adoption milestones.
  • Oversee the development of a long-term portfolio strategy for all products, including meeting customer needs, ensuring cost effectiveness, implementation efficiency, shareholder and regulatory policy.
  • Oversee the implementation of the product portfolio strategy, through the product lifecycle, including management of existing products in the market, development of new products, revisions to existing products and/ or terms and conditions to better meet customer needs or improve efficiency of delivery, and sunset of products at the end of their lifecycle.
  • Create key metrics for product portfolio for accurate and timely reporting to PG&E management and regulatory entities.
  • Ensure portfolio meets regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee performance management, including maintaining formal job responsibility documents, individual goals and development plans, and ensuring the team is aligned with the company and organization’s vision, goals, values, strategies, and operating plan.
  • Oversee long-term plans for product portfolio.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure safety and ethics compliance.
  • Develop strategies for multiple regulatory programs to align with customer needs, regulatory/legislative policy, and business objectives.
  • Identify and understand customer needs and problems, industry landscape, and risks and opportunities of multiple customer segments, channels, rate design strategies, rate tool offerings or technologies.

Background Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Business, Economics, Engineering, or equivalent related work experience
  • 10 years of relevant experience in product development and product management in an industrial B2B environment, and ideally in the energy industry. 

Desired

  • Master’s degree highly desired
  • 3 or more years of experience in managing and leading an organization in a regulated environment
  • Demonstrated experience in change management
  • Ability to build and lead a high performing management team
  • Demonstrated project management experience

Compensation

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle ($220,000 - $230,000) of the range of this role, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This leadership role is also eligible for an annual Short Term Incentive Plan (STIP) and Long-Term Incentive Plan (LTIP).

Reasonable Salary Range (Bay Area):          $174,000 - $260,000
