Position Summary
PG&E’s Strategy team leads the development and facilitation of True North Strategy, co-creates and supports strategy and policy initiatives related to energy system and decarbonization strategies, develops PG&E’s electric and gas load forecasts, and incubates emerging business opportunities. With PG&E’s core values of serving our planet and delivering for our hometowns at heart, the team assesses cross-functional and line of business-specific industry trends and opportunities, provides internal consulting to support functional area strategy development and performance improvement, and leads high-profile utility initiatives.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
Job Responsibilities
The Director of Decarbonization Strategies will lead the development of strategies that cut across functional areas with the goal of decarbonizing California’s energy system at the lowest societal cost. The Director will lead the development of strategy for initiatives core to PG&E’s net zero carbon plan, including creation of a long-term capital plan needed to reach net zero by 2040; developing a strategy to advance commercial and industrial decarbonization; developing and advancing policy positions and initiatives that balance climate mitigation, affordability and customer experience; and undertaking research into emerging technologies needed to meet future energy demand. This Director will provide advice and support for various True North Strategy business plans with decarbonization elements, including Gas Strategy, Electric Vehicles, Generational, and Supply and Load.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Develop a long-term capital plan for where and how PG&E will invest resources to build infrastructure needed to meet its 2040 net zero carbon goals while addressing reliability and affordability
- Create a plan to understand and act upon the needs of PG&E’s industrial and commercial customers related to decarbonization
- Lead development of PG&E’s position on regulatory, legislative, and stakeholder forums related to energy and decarbonization policy
- In concert with the True North Strategy team, engage cross-functionally to identify areas in need of strategy development related to decarbonization
- Negotiate and advocate on behalf of PG&E in policymaking forums and interactions with external stakeholders.
- Identify and lead issues requiring cross-functional collaborations and work with all levels of leadership across functions to drive towards outcomes aligned with PG&E’s purpose, virtues and stands.
- Advise and coach the team on implementing Breakthrough thinking and Lean principles for work management, including developing and executing tactical implementation plans, catch back plans, and problem solving sessions.
- Recruit and train new talent to identify and solve problems, test out new methods and tools, and enhance capabilities in functional work areas.

Compensation
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle of the range ($235,000), the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Minimum: $174,000
Maximum: $296,000
Background Qualifications
Minimum
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Policy, Mathematics, Business, Finance, Sociology, Engineering, Physics or other related fields or equivalent work experience
- 10 or more years of relevant experience, including 4 years of leadership experience

- Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
