Department Overview

The hardworking coworkers of Electric Engineering ensure all manners of electric engineering—including electric standards and process safety, electric design engineering, instrumentation testing and controls, undergrounding, electric regulatory compliance and electric investment planning—are in place to safely enable a strategic and stable workplan for our Electric Operations partners. Our organization is accountable for program planning, financial budgeting, and project execution and delivery of all electric engineering projects. Electric Engineering is comprised of approximately 2,000 coworkers.

Position Summary

Oversees the electric transmission and distribution substation short- and long-term asset management, including development of equipment strategy, failure and risk analysis, investment planning, asset health project development and overall project implementation. Directs management team that manages asset life cycle planning to ensure safe, reliable and cost effectiveness service PG&E’s customers.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Senior Director, Transmission and Substation Asset Management

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop asset strategy and asset management plans for transmission and distribution substation assets, in support of True North Strategy, employee and public safety, reliability, cost efficiency, and environmental goals.
  • Support risk model enhancements and applies various risk models to develop risk-based asset management programs.  Enable and supports strategic Asset Planning process.
  • Develop department short and long-term objectives, tactical plans, budget prioritization, and performance metrics.
  • Develop overarching strategy and supports improvements to the inspection, maintenance, and condition monitoring programs.
  • Develop and implement substation long-lead material strategy.
  • Develop and implement emergency response major material (i.e., Mobile, Capitalize Emergency Materials, etc.)
  • Support the execution of asset and other sponsored programs (capacity, generation and large load interconnections).
  • Reviews and approves new ideas and technologies to advance asset management effectiveness.
  • Communicates effectively to various internal and external audiences, including officer, senior leaders, and peer stakeholders.
  • Represents the company and acts as a chair/spokesperson with other utilities, various industry boards, committees, regulatory agencies, governmental bodies, and other private organizations.
  •  Facilitates and supports regulatory strategy, filings, data requests.  Represents PG&E as expert witness in rate case and other regulatory filings.
  • Supports Transmission Rating Register and FERC Ambient Adjusted Ratings.
  • Guides the team in achieving results by implementing effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, change management, and rewards and recognition.

Compensation

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $174,000

Bay Area Maximum:$296,000

Or

California Minimum:$165,000

California Maximum:$281,000

Background Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 10 years

Desired

  • PE-Professional Engineer license
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • LSS-Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification
  • Utility industry experience, job-related experience in asset strategy and development, experience in transmission line engineering
  • Competency in planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
  • Skill in negotiating between stakeholders to reach an agreement.
  • Competency in making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
