Department Overview

The Wildfire Mitigation (WM) organization oversees PG&E’s wildfire risk strategy, associated mitigations and operations, establishing the strategies, tactics and best practices that support wildfire resilience across the communities we serve. In collaboration with Operations leadership and other business units, WM guides the company’s strategic direction for preventing fire incidents, developing and executing the comprehensive Wildfire Mitigation Plan, and strengthening trust with regulators, communities, and key agencies. To meet these goals, WM delivers operational mitigations such as Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) and Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), performs advanced risk analytics and ignition investigations, fosters community and regulatory partnerships, and coordinates rapid ignition response activities.

Position Summary

The Director of the Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) Program Management Office (PMO) directly leads a team responsible for all aspects of the safe, efficient, and effective implementation and improvement of the EPSS Program. The Director also provides strategic direction and leverages a highly matrixed, cross functional team to ensure enterprise-wide engagement and support for the Program for the benefit of customers, co-workers and the Company.  The Director will identify key opportunities to reduce wildfire risk, improve electric reliability, and support partner organizations in delivering a continuously improving EPSS Program. The leader will be expected to lead with vision, respect, integrity, empathy, and creativity, building learning/teaching teams that are well prepared and action oriented.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. 20-40+% travel across the territory.

Reporting

This position reports to the Senior Director Operational Mitigations and directly manages a team of 25 co-workers

Job Responsibilities 

  • Provides overall leadership, strategy and guidance for the EPSS program. Ensures and oversees planning, regulatory compliance, governance, performance reporting, resource planning and communications.
  • Leads the annual and multi-year forecasting and planning process for all programs in function/department.
  • Develops strategies, plans and processes for the allocations of approved program funds or work/projects to the different operating divisions/areas/regions.
  • Establishes overall strategy for performance measures and oversees the development, production and presentation of comprehensive program management and resource & work planning performance measures and metrics.  Presents regular program and work plan status updates and resource utilization information to senior leadership.
  • Collaborates with Strategic Business Management and Asset Management to develop short- and long-term workplans and strategies for the distribution system. Reviews, considers and approves adjustments to plans to address funding or work changes.
  • Ensures staff monitors and identifies work plan and resource gaps and works with parties to develop recovery plans.  Ensures there is adequate available work, at the right time, to support the work plan by region and system wide.  Makes resource deployment decisions by identifying gaps and coordinating crew moves.
  • Partners with subordinate leaders to identify and prioritize process improvement initiatives. Ensures process and procedure development, implementation, communications and training for new programs and/or changes to existing programs. Coaches staff to identify gaps in work methods, procedures, processes or training and partners with stakeholders to recommend solutions.
  • Handles escalated program issues, including dealing with external customers and/or communities to resolve problems and ensure excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Monitors compliance with Company and California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulations, construction standards, and requirements. Develops policies and relevant governance, processes, infrastructure, documentation and tools to support the program. Ensures all required regulatory reporting is completed on time.
  • Participates as a lead member of the Incident Command structure during times of significant events, such as storms, earthquakes, etc.
  • Leads and influences department staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and coaching, and rewards and recognition.

Background Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 10 years
  • Leadership experience, 5 years

Desired

  • Masters Degree or equivalent experience
  • PMI-Project Management Institute PMP-Project Management Professional certification

Compensation

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

We estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed within the reasonable compensation range of $188,000-$270,250 The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.  This leadership role is also eligible for an annual Short Term Incentive Plan (STIP) award, as well as the Long Term Incentive Plan (LTIP) grant.
