Welcome to Electric Asset Management (EAM). We are responsible for electric system engineering and planning, asset strategy, and risk management across Transmission, Distribution, and Substation asset families. Within our Asset Management organization, our Distribution group focuses on risk-informed strategic planning, while leveraging lessons learned from inspections and asset data to inform asset management and maintenance decisions.

The Asset Risk Management (ARM) team sits within Distribution Asset Strategy, and encompasses Asset Failure Analysis (AFA), Asset Insights, and Inspections & Maintenance Strategy (I&M). ARM is tasked with the development and continuous improvement of how we monitor and maintain our assets, ensuring we support a resilient and reliable grid, and we keep our communities safe.

Position Summary

The Data Analyst / Data Engineer Intern supports the development of strategies, work plans, and analytics for distribution inspection programs, including aerial, ground, and infrared inspections. This role involves building data solutions, performing analyses, and supporting decision‑making across the organization.

  • Build and maintain data pipelines using Python/PySpark to support inspection and asset management programs.
  • Develop and maintain analytical dashboards and visualizations to communicate insights to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Extract, clean, and prepare data for analysis, leadership reporting, and ad hoc data requests.
  • Analyze datasets using statistical and analytical methods to identify trends, patterns, and operational insights.
  • Support development of longterm, datadriven inspection and maintenance strategies for distribution assets.
  • Apply and develop skills in data processing, analytics, and data engineering to contribute to a wide range of business questions.
  • Communicate findings clearly and concisely, tailoring messages to technical, leadership, or field audiences.
  • Collaborate with engineering, data, and field operations teams to identify new data sources, enhance existing datasets, and recommend process improvements.
  • Contribute to comprehensive reports and presentations with actionable insights for internal clients.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys solving complex data problems, and works well with cross‑functional partners. This position follows a hybrid schedule, combining remote work with required on‑site days based on business needs.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $23.08 - $$36.42

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Information Technology/Systems, Engineering, Business/Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Students must be continuing their education toward a degree during and/or after the internship.

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA.
  • Experience with Python required; familiarity with PySpark, SQL, Palantir Foundry, BI Tools (Power BI, Tableau) and coursework or exposure to data engineering, statistics, or cloud tools is a plus.
  • Basic investigative, assessment and evaluation skills.
  • Experience working on computer systems, architectures, networks and data.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Collaboration and teamwork.
  • Comfortable with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
