Department Overview
The hardworking coworkers of Electric Engineering ensure all manners of electric engineering—including electric standards and process safety, electric design engineering, instrumentation testing and controls, undergrounding, electric regulatory compliance and electric investment planning—are in place to safely enable a strategic and stable workplan for our Electric Operations partners. Our organization is accountable for program planning, financial budgeting, and project execution and delivery of all electric engineering projects. Electric Engineering is comprised of approximately 2,000 coworkers.
Position Summary
We are seeking an expert-level Digital Transformation & Generative AI Program Manager to modernize the electric as-built process, transforming paper-based, redlined, and fragmented electronic records into a trusted, fully digital, and auditable system of record. This role will lead the end-to-end redesign of how construction, field changes, and final as-built documentation are captured, validated, approved, and integrated into downstream utility systems.
The ideal candidate deeply understands electric distribution/transmission construction workflows and has successfully delivered digital and GenAI-enabled solutions that improve data accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory confidence.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be in Oakland or Pleasanton.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $129,000
Bay Area Maximum: $207,000
Job Responsibilities
- Applies broad expertise and advanced knowledge to wide-ranging issues.
- May act as a team lead and provide direction to less experienced employees.
- Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.
- Communicates complex ideas to diverse audiences using a variety of media.
- Integrates industry knowledge related to data into everyday business practices and decision making.
- Provides others with guidance around complex industry regulatory and compliance environment and considerations.
- Creates new and complex data models to facilitate business decisions.
- Provides direction on overall program.
- Performs in-depth quality assurance final reviews and contract drafts.
- Develops new or revises existing scopes of work to ensure compliance standards and deliverables are established.
As-Built Process Transformation
- Lead the end-to-end digitization of the electric as-built lifecycle, from design issuance through construction, field changes, approval, and system update
- Establish controls to ensure as-built data accuracy, completeness, and traceability
- Replace paper markups, PDFs, and manual transcriptions with structured, digital-first workflows
Define standard data models and business rules for as-built information across distribution and/or transmission assets
Generative AI & Intelligent Automation
- Apply GenAI to accelerate and improve as-built creation and validation
- Design and manage human-in-the-loop workflows to ensure engineering and regulatory confidence
- Lead GenAI pilots through production deployment with measurable outcomes
Program & Stakeholder Leadership
- Own large-scale transformation initiatives affecting engineering, construction, field crews, and GIS teams
- Lead cross-functional teams including design engineering, field operations, IT, GIS, and external vendors
- Drive adoption through management of change, training, change management, and field-friendly solutions
- Communicate progress, risks, and value to executive leadership
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
- Job-related experience, 8 years
Desired:
- Masters Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience
- PMI-Project Management Institute PMP-Project Management Professional certification
- 10 years of related experience or equivalent
- Ability to use understanding of the business to help drive strategic decision making, and to recommend operational improvements
- Ability to lead the largest most complex projects across the line of business supported (i.e. Customer Care, Human Resources, etc.)
- Deep knowledge and expertise of business and or industry drivers
- Ability to lead large and complex projects working with cross-functional teams
- Ability to create compelling business cases based on complex business environments and inputs
- Adept at addressing issues with diplomacy and tact
- Deep hands-on knowledge of the electric as-built process for distribution and/or transmission assets
- Proven success digitizing as-built or design-to-record workflows in a regulated utility environment
- Strong understanding of GIS, work management, Electric Asset Management, and design systems integration
- Familiarity with utility GIS platforms and design tools
- Experience leading GenAI, document intelligence, or advanced automation initiatives in production
- Experience with GenAI platforms and document intelligence solutions (e.g., Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, computer vision, OCR)
