Department Overview
PG&E’s safety stand is that Everyone and Everything is Always Safe. The Enterprise Health and Safety (EHS) Department develops and implements programs that drive improved safety for our coworkers, contractors and hometowns. Our department leads programs involving SIF Prevention, Human Performance, Keys to Life, the PG&E Safety Excellence Management System (PSEMS), Safety Culture and others.
Position Summary
Designs, develops, implements, and oversees health and safety programs in accordance with safety & health strategy which includes program marketing and immersion of programs at PG&E to change or improve employee health, safety, and wellness. Manages activities associated with safety, wellness, and/or health programs including planning, coordinating, monitoring, and reporting effectiveness of such programs. Responsible for organizing, leading, and facilitating cross-functional teams as well as communicating programs. Works with Enterprise Health & Safetyleaders to strategize and execute program initiatives; supports execution by providing tools to leadership and health champions. Delivers presentations and training courses.
Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.
Position will require approximately 75% of travel time in work schedule.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
Position Duties (may include but are not limited to)-
- Leads and supports the implementation of Element 13 – Assurance in the PG&E Safety Excellence Management System throughout the Enterprise.
- Documents assurance registers to identify the safety excellence requirements applicable to each Functional Area (FA).
- Understands internal and external requirements and is able to develop protocols/checklists of controls to verify in the field.
- Develops, implements, monitors and maintains programs, systems, policies and procedures required to ensure regulatory compliance and the overall safety and health of employees and the community.
- Creates safety standards and policies that meet regulatory compliance and represent best practices.
- Recognizes, evaluates, recommends and implements PG&E Safety policies and procedures to assure awareness of and compliance with Safety requirements.
- Makes presentations to senior leadership as well as communicating program philosophy, information, and operational policies and procedures.
- Ensures that quality control procedures are established to monitor all aspects of regulatory compliance.
- Must keep fully informed on all existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety regulations.
- Conducts validation, verification, observations, assessments, and audits to assure controls are in place and functioning as designed in order to prevent Serious Injuries & Fatalities (SIFs).
- Comfortable providing feedback to frontline employees regarding requirements, controls, and training.
- Builds strong relationships with Functional Area partners who are responsible for complying with the assurance requirements.
- Develops and provides Safety training to Company employees.
- Develops and implements programs including leading coordination and facilitating of program review sessions with leaders and/or functional groups to review costs, schedule and program effectiveness.
- Promotes programs to enhance and encourage employee awareness of safety, accident/incidents, industrial hygiene and regulatory compliance
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum:$114,000
Bay Area Maximum:$182,000
OR
California Minimum:$108,000
California Maximum: $173,000
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Qualifications-
Minimum:
- BA / BS degree or equivalent experience
- 7 years of safety and program development/management experience in a construction, utility, or industrial environment, or master’s degree in safety specific area and 5 years of safety and program development experience in a construction, utility, or other industrial environment.
Desired:
- MA / MS degree
- Utility experience
- Certified as a CIH, CSP,CHST and/or SMS or as a CQA, CQE, or CQIA
- Highly effective communication skills
- Ability to organize clear and concise presentation points and deliver these in an informative, engaging, and articulate manner
- Ability to solve problems, taking into account the strategic and operational perspective
- Demonstrated strong customer focus, project achievement/management and cross-functional collaboration/ teamwork skills;
- The ability to work in a fast paced, results orientated environment
- Ability to think and work independently using a wide range of resources.
- Knowledge of incident investigation analysis and corrective action plan development/management.
- Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Power Point skills.
- Advanced knowledge of CalOSHA general industry and construction safety orders and other recognized safety regulations and standards (e.g., ANSI, ASTM, NFPA, NEC, FedOSHA, etc).
