The Procurement Excellence Center (PEC) is a strategic function dedicated to driving procurement transformation, operational efficiency, and value creation across the organization. Within the Procurement organization, the PEC establishes best practices, standardizes processes, and leverages advanced analytics and market intelligence to enable data-driven decision-making. The PEC collaborates with all Procurement teams to enhance capabilities, improve performance, and optimize costs. Key focus areas include market intelligence and analytics, digital procurement transformation, risk management, supplier relationship management, governance, and capability development.
Position Summary
PG&E’s Procurement organization is transforming how procurement and enterprise master data are architected and managed across the business. We are seeking an experienced Principal MDM Solutions Architect to lead the definition, design, implementation, and governance of scalable, high-performance master data management solutions that support procurement, supply chain, finance, and enterprise-wide data initiatives.
As the Principal MDM Solutions Architect, you will combine deep technical expertise in master data management with strategic leadership in data architecture and governance. This role will be closely partnered with Procurement, IT, Enterprise Architecture, Finance, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive data quality, standardization, integration, and operational excellence.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work headquarters.
PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Pay Range display:
Bay Area – $126,000 to $179,000
Key Responsibilities
MDM Architecture & Strategy
Lead the design and evolution of enterprise master data architectures, including procurement, vendor, material, contract, pricing, and related reference data domains.
Translate business requirements into robust, scalable MDM solution designs and architectures that support hybrid cloud and on-premises systems.
Develop and maintain MDM roadmaps, integration standards, and architectural patterns aligned with PG&E’s enterprise technology strategy.
Evaluate and recommend MDM platforms, tools, and technologies, including MDM suite capabilities for data modeling, workflow, hierarchy management, matching/merging, and API-based integration.
Data Integration & Lifecycle Management
Architect and oversee robust data integration patterns (ETL/ELT, APIs, messaging) between MDM, ERP (e.g., SAP/Ariba), analytics, and operational systems.
Define data onboarding, transformation, duplication, and syndication processes that harmonize data flows across multiple source systems into the MDM hub.
Ensure performance, scalability, availability, and security of MDM solutions across environments.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
Provide enterprise-level architectural leadership across teams, including providing design reviews, architecture governance support, technical documentation, and mentoring of data engineers, architects, and developers.
Partner with Procurement, Finance, Supply Chain, and IT teams to translate business needs into structured data solutions and articulate value of MDM improvements.
Work with vendors, third-party integrators, and cloud providers to evaluate solution approaches and implement procurement-specific master data capabilities.
Reporting & Analytics Enablement
Support development of dashboards and MDM-driven analytics that provide operational and executive visibility into data health, KPIs, and data usage trends.
Enable self-service reporting frameworks and data products that empower business stakeholders while maintaining data governance guardrails.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, master data management, enterprise solutions architecture, or related domains including procurement master data.
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and managing MDM solutions at enterprise scale using industry tools (e.g., Informatica MDM, SAP MDG, Reltio, Stibo, IBM).
Deep knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality management, metadata management, reference/master data domains, and integration patterns.
Strong understanding of procurement systems (e.g., SAP/Ariba) and enterprise ERP landscapes.
Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, communication skills, and ability to influence stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in STEM or Data Management discipline.
Previous experience architecting MDM within regulated industries or utilities.’
Proven ability to lead architectural governance and cross-functional transformation programs.
