The Commercial Growth Organization (CGO) is dedicated to accelerating strategic, rate-reducing growth for PG&E, with a focus on driving data center growth, electrification, and economic development. With electricity demand expected to double over the next 15 years, we’re building an energy system of the future for the world’s fourth-largest economy. This team sits within the Strategy and Growth line of business, which includes Energy Policy and Procurement, Strategy and Innovation, and Integrated Long-Term Planning.

Position Summary

PG&E is seeking a highly strategic and entrepreneurial Principal Product Owner to lead commercialization, scaling, and continuous evolution of innovative customer offerings that accelerate large load energization and interconnection while maximizing existing grid hosting capacity and advancing ratepayer affordability.

This role serves as the business owner for Flex Connect and future Speed to Power solutions, driving the product vision, customer experience, regulatory strategy, operational model, adoption pipeline, and go-to-market execution. The successful candidate will work across Transmission and Distribution Planning, Interconnection, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, IT, and third-party technology providers to transform emerging pilots into scalable utility offerings that accelerate customer energization and improve asset utilization.

This is a highly visible leadership role requiring equal parts product strategy, market development, partnership building, operational excellence, and utility industry expertise.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The work location is Oakland, CA. 

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position.  The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity,specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.  The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum to the midpoint of the range.  The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

Bay Area Minimum: $151,000.00

Bay Area Midpoint: $204,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $257,000.00

What Success Looks Like

Within 12-24 months, the successful candidate will:

  • Scale Flex Connect as a customer offering to diverse distribution-connected customer segments
  • Establish sustainable pipeline management and a customer engagement model.
  • Improve customer energization timelines through Speed to Power strategies.
  • Deliver measurable increases in customer adoption and grid capacity utilization.
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap and pilot pipeline for next-generation flexible interconnection solutions in partnership with the Load Management Strategies team.
  • Create a scalable commercialization framework that can be applied to future PG&E speed to power products.

Job Responsibilities

Product Vision & Strategy

  • Define and own the long-term product roadmap for Flex Connect and related Speed to Power solutions.
  • Develop market strategies that accelerate customer adoption while delivering business value and grid benefits.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, regulatory opportunities, customer needs, and market trends to evolve the product offering.
  • Build and maintain multi-year business cases supporting product investment and growth.

Pipeline & Commercialization Leadership

  • Own end-to-end growth strategy, including customer acquisition, market awareness, enrollment, conversion, and portfolio performance.
  • Develop scalable customer journeys and operating models that enable growth across strategic customer segments.
  • Establish and maintain KPIs and performance metrics to manage pipeline health, customer conversion, participation rates, and program effectiveness.
  • Drive marketing, outreach, and partnership strategies in collaboration with customer-facing and commercial teams.

Product Operations & Customer Experience

  • Own and enhance program processes, documentation, and workflows required to support program participation at scale.
  • Identify and eliminate customer friction points to accelerate enrollment, integration, and energization timelines.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination across planning, interconnection, operations, customer programs, and technology organizations.
  • Establish scalable governance and reporting structures to support growth from startup-scale deployment to enterprise-scale operations.

Regulatory & Market Development

  • Partner with regulatory, policy, and strategy teams to advance tariff, program, and market enhancements.
  • Represent product needs in regulatory proceedings, stakeholder engagements, and industry forums.
  • Translate regulatory developments into commercialization opportunities.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the connective tissue between customer-facing organizations and technical delivery teams.
  • Align diverse stakeholder groups around common goals, priorities, and product outcomes.
  • Influence without authority across multiple business units and external partners.
  • Lead executive communications, strategic planning, and performance reporting.

Innovation & Scale

  • Lead transition of emerging grid flexibility concepts from pilot to enterprise-scale offerings.
  • Establish repeatable frameworks for commercialization of future flexible interconnection and electrification-enabling products.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology, automation, and process redesign to improve customer outcomes and reduce cost-to-serve.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • Minimum of 7 years’ job-related experience

Desired:

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Studies, or related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 8 years’ job-related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of load management solutions, battery energy storage systems, distributed energy resources, and / or transmission and distribution planning and operations.
  • Experience in energy, utilities, transportation electrification, or grid infrastructure
  • Experience in program/project management and scaling pilots to programs
  • Background in customer acquisition, marketing, or product/program scaling
  • CPUC/CAISO/FERC/regulatory communications experience
