The Procurement Excellence Center (PEC) is a strategic function dedicated to driving procurement transformation, operational efficiency, and value creation across the organization. Within the Procurement organization, the PEC establishes best practices, standardizes processes, and leverages advanced analytics and market intelligence to enable data-driven decision-making. The PEC collaborates with all Procurement teams to enhance capabilities, improve performance, and optimize costs. Key focus areas include market intelligence and analytics, digital procurement transformation, risk management, supplier relationship management, governance, and capability development.
Position Summary
The Procurement Market Intelligence Principal is a strategic, data-driven expert responsible for delivering deep market insights and analytics to enhance procurement decision-making. This individual contributor role focuses on leveraging data analytics, market research, and advanced modeling techniques to drive procurement excellence, support category strategy, and mitigate supply risks.
This individual will collect and analyze internal and external market data, monitor industry trends, and provide actionable intelligence to inform sourcing strategies, risk management, and cost optimization initiatives. You will work closely with category managers and senior procurement leadership to ensure data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Key responsibilities include developing and managing procurement dashboards, conducting predictive analytics on supplier and market performance, and synthesizing complex data into clear, actionable insights. The ideal candidate has a strong background in procurement analytics, market intelligence, and strategic sourcing, with expertise in data visualization tools, AI-driven analytics, and market trend forecasting.
This role requires a blend of analytical expertise, business acumen, and communication skills to translate complex data into strategic recommendations that drive competitive advantage and procurement efficiency.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland.
PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Pay Range display:
Bay Area – $136,000 to $202,000
Reporting Relationship
The Procurement Market Intelligence Principal will report to the Procurement Market Intelligence Senior Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Act as SME regarding industry, PG&E activities, the California wholesale electricity market and market participants.
- Provide insights on industry trends, supplier markets, commodity pricing, and geopolitical factors that impact procurement decisions
- Provide thought leadership to guide complex strategy decisions.
- Develop strategies and processes to communicate with internal stakeholders and PG&E management and to improve sourcing analytics.
- Translate complex data into actionable recommendations for executives and distill insights into executive-level presentations.
- Leverage advanced analytics to assess procurement performance, cost trends, and risk exposure.
- Take a leadership role in developing vision and guiding principles regarding markets.
- Lead spend analysis, total cost of ownership (TCO) modeling, and should-cost analysis to support sourcing decisions.
- Lead multiple stakeholder initiatives and coordinate interdependent work streams to ensure successful completion of sourcing analytics.
- Take the lead in preparing and approving “deep dive” position and strategy papers. Act as a liaison to stakeholders and industry agencies on market intelligence and analytics.
- Lead teams to respond to ad hoc requests for analyses of impacts of electric procurement issues as needed.
- Partner with IT and data governance teams to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of procurement data.
Background Qualifications
Minimum
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering or related discipline
- Requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
Desired
- Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Math, or Economics preferred
- Advanced degree
- 10+ years of experience in Procurement, Procurement Analytics, Market Intelligence, or related fields
- Strategic Sourcing and/or Category Management experience
- Strong analytical skills, ability to solve abstract problems, attention to detail
- Well-developed computer skills including familiarity with standard Microsoft Office applications
- Effectively and persuasively communicates highly complex ideas to diverse audiences
- Acts as a thought leader, applying extensive industry and market subject matter expertise in the development of strategy or resolution of complex issues
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of CPUC or other Public Utilities Commission
- Able to solve unique and complex problems and anticipate issues and develop innovative solutions
- Able to work autonomously

- Able to manage major cross-functional projects and initiatives

- Expertise in market intelligence tools (e.g., Beroe, Gartner, Bloomberg, etc.).
- Advanced in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Experience with procurement and ERP systems (e.g., SAP Ariba)
