Job Summary

The Aviation Operations Specialist performs a wide range of technical work to support the company’s aviation operations, which is used to maintain and monitor utility infrastructure, for electric transmission construction and project work, to maintain the hydro system, and for emergency response. Responsibilities include conducting audits and inspections, verifying equipment needs, coordinating development of and delivery of aviation-related training, monitoring operations and trends, investigating incidents and accidents and making recommendations for improvement. This position acts as the subject matter expert for, equipment maintenance, construction and patrol, acting as liaison with work crews and pilots. The position represents the function both internally across various departments and externally as needed. It will also rotate on-call storm and emergency response. Aircraft may include helicopters, fixed wing aircraft and drones.

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.   

Pay Range display:

Bay Area – $140,000 to $207,900 annually

Job Responsibility

• Receive and review identified “High Consequence” work plans including but not limited to Expansive Projects with Functional Areas (FA) where aviation operations are heavily utilized

• Aviation Work plans requiring: Over Water Operations, Corrective Action Programs (CAP), or more advanced planning requirements

• Partners with FA Project Manager/Construction Manager/Supervisors/Superintendents to review upcoming High Consequence Jobs/Schedules

• Identifies efficiencies related to utilization of aircraft

• Conducts After Action Reviews (AAR) of high consequence jobs where improvement opportunities are identified

• Ensures high consequence work plans are being supported by aviation Operations Specialists assigned to region and all tasks are complete prior to work date

• Leads or conducts office or field audits. Reviews and approves aviation work. Observes how work is performed and verifies equipment needs.

• Reviews work plans and authorizes work. Identifies opportunities for process improvement and works with lines of business to develop new work procedures and tools.

• Provides direction to less experienced specialists.

• Interacts with others within the company, with external parties, including other utilities, vendors, PG&E contractors and regulatory or government agencies.

Requirement

Minimum

• High School diploma or equivalen

• 10 years of related experience, including 2 years as an Aviation Expert Specialist or equivalent job with Aviation responsibility.

• Experience in electric transmission, electric maintenance and construction, and/or hydro maintenance and construction.

• Valid California Driver’s License

• Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) or University of Southern California (USC) Aviation Safety Certificate

• Travel required up to 70% of the time.

• SAFE-0256 Air Patroller

• Advanced rigging knowledge/ability

• Public speaking to internal & external groups, meetings, conferences

• Knowledge/understanding of FAR Title 14, Part 91 & 133
