Department Overview

PG&E’s Enterprise Business Processes department is a cross-functional organization leading PG&E’s “Propel” program, a major business and technology modernization program to unlock customer value by simplifying the way we work together and enabling innovation for breakthrough change across Engineering, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Information Technology.

The Power Generation Propel team is a diverse, interdisciplinary group of subject matter experts with deep functional and industry expertise supporting the company’s fleet of hydroelectric, gas combined cycle, solar, and BESS generation systems located throughout Northern California. Position Summary

This intern role will engage in development of master data for mechanical, civil, and electrical power generation systems to enable advancements in work management, asset strategy management, and supply chain. Additionally, the role will be involved with piloting new business processes and technology systems used in asset inspections, work scheduling and capacity planning, and enabling the craft workforce to access job packages and asset information from their mobile devices in the field.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to $35.37

Responsibilities

  • Analyze construction project records and procurement records and learn from journeyman craft workers to develop and stage asset data for conversion to new technology systems
  • Strategize business process improvements in sourcing and procurement for parts and services for critical systems and assets
  • Help develop governance and templates for master data crowdsourcing
  • Participate in user acceptance test programs for technology pilots
  • Support asset strategy engineers developing asset registries, risk assessment framework, and maintenance strategies

The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced asset strategy engineers and power generation operations and maintenance professionals. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Power Generation organization, including project engineering, dam safety engineering, and water management.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related engineering field at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship in a fulltime capacity returning back to school in the Fall of 2025.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license at time of hire.

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Prior work experience demonstrating candidate’s dependability and accountability as an employee
  • Prior work experience in a related field (energy, utilities, power generation, manufacturing, construction, supply chain, logistics, IT, data, operations, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
