Department Overview
The Fleet Maintenance Department is a part of PG&E’s Transportation Services Department. We operate out of 6 areas in the PG&E service territory. The Fleet Maintenance Department provides vehicle maintenance and service to PG&E owned and leased vehicles and equipment.
Position Summary
This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.
The Crane Surveyor in Training would specialize in hydraulic and electronic over hydraulic control systems and who without direct supervision performs inspection and/or repairs to cranes used in lifting service; as well as all types of vehicles, construction equipment and appurtenances, including hydraulic, and electrical circuits and devices, and makes reports there on.
Inspects vehicles or equipment being assembled, fabricated, or repaired to make sure that they meet Company’s and manufacturer’s specifications; recommends payment of invoices, and initiates claims and adjustments and is responsible for preparation of Estimate for Repair or Replacement forms (or other form which may in future replace this form). They shall have the craft qualifications of an Equipment Mechanic. They must be able to operate properly all types of vehicles and construction equipment and to impart this knowledge to other employees.
This position is a journey-level position who are professional mechanics with a solid knowledge and background in a wide variety of mechanical skills. Skills include, but are not limited to, equipment service and repair of mobile hydraulics, aerial hydraulics, OSHA boom inspections, CHP BIT Inspections, air brakes, electrical and electronic systems, diesel and gasoline powered vehicles and equipment.
In a General Construction position, individuals must be able to travel and transfer to a new headquarters upon request at any time; throughout the entire PG&E service territory with no guarantees as to how long you will be away from home. This position will be used to fill vacancies throughout our PG&E Service territory in South Bay region and headquartered in San Jose, and other locations based on business needs. This is subject to change based on business needs.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $68.56 per hour. This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.
Training:
This position will receive training on how to perform certain Inspections on Crane Equipment within the 3-year training period. From that training the Crane Surveyor in Training will be required to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to complete said inspections to be recognized as a Crane Surveyor. Must be able to pass an OSHA Crane Surveyor examination within 36 months from hire.
Responsibilities:
Diagnostics –
Conducts visual, auditory and operational inspection of vehicles and equipment to identify and troubleshoot problems for repair; identifies problem causes; researches problems via repair manuals, schematics, OEM's, service bulletins and other mechanics as needed
Inspects vehicles or equipment being assembled, fabricated or repaired to make sure that they meet Company’s and manufacturer’s specifications
Preparation of Estimate for Repair or Replacement forms (or other form which may in future replace this form)
Repairs/Rebuilds Vehicles & Components –
Performs inspection and/or repairs to cranes used in lifting service; as well as all types of vehicles, construction equipment and appurtenances, including hydraulic, and electrical circuits and devices, and makes reports thereon
Able to operate properly all types of vehicles and construction equipment and to impart this knowledge to other employees
Maintenance –
Recommends payment of invoices
Initiates claims and adjustments
Uses hand tools and power tools to disassemble, access and re-assemble equipment or components; removes and replaces broken or worn parts (such as cylinders, brakes and gaskets); perform electrical repairs
Qualifications:
Minimum
Must possess a valid California Driver’s License by day one of hire
Must possess a valid Class A Driver’s Permit by day one of hire
4 years of journey-level experience in light, medium, or heavy-duty equipment service and repair and the ability to provide verification
Must be able to pass an OSHA Crane Surveyor examination within 36 months of hire
Able to work in all types of weather extremes
Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)
Ability to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds a minimum of one time a day
Desired
- CA CDL Class A license or equivalent
- Mobile Crane Operator certification
- CalOSHA-California Occupational Safety and Health Administration Crane Surveyor License
- Demonstrated ability and experience working with computer-controlled engine systems
- Demonstrated work experience with air brakes and hydraulic systems
- Demonstrated work experience with heavy equipment
- Demonstrated experience with computer equipment (computer keyboard and mouse)
- 2 years of experience of crane related field duties such as crane inspector
