Department Overview
Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) produces safe, reliable, and cost-effective electricity for PG&E’s customers in an environmentally responsible manner. As the state’s single largest source of clean energy, DCPP’s two pressurized water reactors produce 2,340 MW of electricity for California. As directed by California Senate Bill 846, PG&E is taking actions to continue Diablo Canyon operations for at least five years beyond 2025 to support state electrical reliability needs. The Sourcing organization is the functional lead for the procurement of materials and services at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The department collaborates with internal clients and suppliers, managing $10 billion of annual company spend, to develop mutually beneficial total cost solutions for goods and services. The department provides the following services to internal clients: procurement of goods and services, strategic sourcing and cost savings, supplier relationship management, supplier diversity planning, execution and outreach, compliance management, ongoing procurement field support, and management of the procure-to-pay cycle.
Position Summary
To obtain and maintain employment and unescorted access at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
The Category Leader job family develops and manages one or more sourcing spend categories, and manages all contracts associated with the category(ies). Incumbents develop strategic category plans to optimize cost savings, service excellence, diversity spend and total cost of ownership for the categories, effectively influence Functional Areas (FA) including senior leadership to achieve understanding, acceptance, and commitment of sourcing strategies, work with FAs to develop, source and negotiate major contracts and play a key role in the Supplier Relationship Management / Scorecard process.
Travel is approximately 5% of the scheduled work time, and would include select industry conferences, procurement meetings, or training.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (San Luis Obispo).
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
California Minimum: $120,000
California Maximum: $190,000
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Job Responsibilities
• Subject matter expert on particular commodities or services.
• Leads the development of medium complexity category strategies.
• Leads cross-functional team through strategic sourcing process and development/execution of negotiation strategies for medium complexity spend categories.
• Develops and sustains mutually beneficial strategic relationships with category suppliers.
• Develops and reviews performance data with suppliers. Works with suppliers to drive ongoing value discoveries.
• Creates and maintains category plans.
• Maintains awareness of industry and market trends through ongoing research
• Conducts and documents market research and supplier risk analysis to verify the financial health of existing and potential suppliers
Qualifications-
Minimum:
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management or job-related discipline, or equivalent job- related experience
• Six (6) years of experience in a supply chain or job-related field.
Desired:
• Master’s degree in business administration or job-related discipline
• Lean Six Sigma certification (LSS)
• Project Management Professional certification (PMP)
• Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) from Institute for Supply Management (ISM)
• Knowledge of nuclear service procurement, procedures and processes.
• Strong negotiation skills
• Experience in contract management
• Eight (8) years of experience in strategic sourcing (all types of bid events, RFx), preferably leading
• Eight years of experience in procurement or job-related field.
• Utility or plant heavy equipment industry experience.
