ERDP Gas Engineering Management Trainee

Department Overview:

PG&E’s Gas Operations and Gas Engineering organizations are focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. The Organizations are responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration, and emergency response.

  • Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates approximately 6,438 miles of gas transmission pipelines, approximately 42,141 miles of distribution main, 4.5 million natural gas customer accounts, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities.

  • Gas Engineering aids in the operations, maintenance, construction, and planning for $21 billion in gas assets that transport, store, compress, regulate, measure, and deliver gas approximately 4.5 million customers. 

Position Summary:

The Gas Operations and Gas Engineering Rotational Development Program is an 18-month rotation program that provides engineers an opportunity to gain meaningful engineering experience in up to three departments within Gas Operations or Gas Engineering focused on improving PG&E’s large network of gas transmission and distribution pipelines.

Engineers will have the option to apply for associate level engineering positions after the second rotation or move into a third rotation to gain additional experience while applying to associate level engineering jobs.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for a bachelor’s degree is $48.22 and for a master’s degree is $52.12.

Responsibilities:

With six months in each rotation, participants will have time to learn about the rotational department and contribute to the department's success.  Engineers can expect to work in various locations across PG&E’s service territory.  Participants may rotate into two or three areas to include but not limited to the listed below:

  • Gas Portfolio Management and Planning
  • Gas Regulatory and Risk
  • Gas Strategy Execution and System Planning

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates will graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s engineering degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or equivalent engineering from May 2023 – June 2025.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to start date. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Former PG&E Intern
  • EIT certification
  • Completed coursework in: Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, and other high-pressure pipeline related courses
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Work experience or internships in utilities, municipalities, construction, or other pipeline related fields
  • Strong communications, initiative, and teamwork
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
