Department Overview

Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution main, 3.6 million gas services, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities. Gas Operations is comprised of approximately 6,000 coworkers.

Position Summary

Oversees the real time risk mitigation, operations, and emergency response for the gas network, including all transmission and distribution systems. Plans for reliability of the system, including modeling total capacity, and identifying appropriate expansion projects to build system reliability. Improves safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and life cycles.

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $​129,000

Bay Area Maximum: $207,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures safety is a priority for self, team, and the public. Meets all safety requirements.
  • Acts as a single point of contact for department external audits and reviews.
  • Implements regulatory/industry requirements.
  • Oversees Control Room Management and provides development, updates, and compliance.
  • Ensures quality control and quality improvement of control room activities including but not limited to the development of new processes such as co-located emergency response and damage prevention. Performs benchmarking to identify best practices to be utilized in process improvement.
  • Develops and executes the apprentice training program.
  • Ensures Gas system operations including field technology leadership.
  • Serves as team lead for various working groups inside and outside the control room. Serves as liaison with other programs and personnel to coordinate work across the gas distribution system affecting operations. Builds constructive and effective team relationships with all gas operations stakeholders.
  • Participates in review process for design of new facilities and operations of all facilities to ensure they meet operations requirements prior to providing sign-off for Distribution Gas Control.
  • Develops and implements policies, standards, work procedures, job aids and processes to improve efficiencies in operations and business relationships.
  • Leads development and implementation of an increased customer focus business approach to providing support to M&C and customers. Negotiates and develops Memorandums of Understanding and Service Level Agreements with customers and other business units.
  • Participates in the Gas Distribution Control Center On-Call management program.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of relevant experience including gas distribution operations, engineering, planning, estimating, mapping, maintenance, construction, and/or field services.
  • 5 years of experience in distribution utility emergency response, damage prevention, and clearance activities.
  • 3 years program/project management experience
