Electric Distribution Engineering Innovative Design Solutions Intern
Department Overview
The hardworking coworkers of Electric Engineering ensure all manners of electric engineering—including electric standards and process safety, electric design engineering, instrumentation testing and controls, undergrounding, electric regulatory compliance and electric investment planning—are in place to safely enable a strategic and stable workplan for our Electric Operations partners. Our organization is accountable for program planning, financial budgeting, and project execution and delivery of all electric engineering projects. Electric Engineering is comprised of approximately 2,000 coworkers.
Position Summary
The Innovative Design Solutions team creates and supports tools for the engineers to use to design and estimate project work to be done by the construction crews. These tools are also used to field job locations and to review and approve designs and projects before submitting them to the construction organization.
The hourly rate for a bachelor’s degree ranges from $24.52 to $29.81 and for a master’s degree is $35.37.
Responsibilities
IDS is looking for a talented summer intern to focus on supporting and interfacing with our users and other stakeholders by:
- Creating Job Aids, Web Based Training Modules, updating our wiki/SharePoint and create training materials.
- Outreach to the users to identify topics to discuss during forum calls. Create a form for requesting enhancements.
- Minor web and mobile programming and testing
The successful intern will have the opportunity to participate in activities as described above working with a team of experienced estimators and IT professionals. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of electric distribution assets, engineering design & calculations and estimating projects through the work they will be performing.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Qualified candidates are pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at an accredited University in:
- Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering field or
- Information Systems
- Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship
Desired:
- 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
- Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
- Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
- Experience programming in python, JavaScript and/or HTML
- Training/Tutoring and Documentation practice
- ESRI GIS exposure/experience
- EIT or FE certification
