Department Overview
Integrated Grid Planning (IGP) develops 10-year optimized workplans for PG&E’s Electric organization. Holistic, data-driven, methods are used to conduct asset and system level analysis on current and future grid needs. The solutions to these grid needs are then developed and packaged in 10-year optimized workplans. IGP works in close alignment with various asset managers, asset owners, engineering and operations and analytics teams. IGP develops integrated workplans that maximize value to our customers, and simultaneously maximize grid reliability, safety and resilience all while building the grid of the future.
Position Summary
The Integrated Grid Planning Solutions Internship position is located within the Integrated Grid Planning (IGP) organization. You will have an opportunity to take a deep dive into our vast electric system, understand our assets, their needs and the frameworks under which they operate. You will run data analytics and develop models to help address these needs. You will create interactive reports and dashboards that will help us make various business decisions. You will also have an opportunity to engage with our partners inside and outside of PG&E.
The hourly rate for a bachelor’s degree ranges from $24.52 to $29.81 and for a master’s degree is $35.37.
Responsibilities
As an IGP Solutions Intern, you will be supporting the IGP team with a variety of initiatives, from data analysis to industry engagement. You will work closely with a team of engineers and help develop the IGP Solutions products. A background in Electrical Engineering and power systems is highly desired. In your role, you will:
- Conduct data analysis in Foundry.
- Write and run Python scripts.
- Create dashboards (Power BI).
- Help engage with various industry members.
- Document newly created processes.
- Develop templates to streamline future documentation efforts.
- Coordinating educational meetings and workshops.
- Support various strategic initiatives.
- Prepare presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct research and analysis to support decision-making processes.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at an accredited University
- Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship
- Interest in grid resilience and reliability, electric grid optimization and efficiency, regulatory compliance and policy analysis, grid modernization
Desired:
- Electrical Engineering background, specialized in Power Systems
- 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
- Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, or engineering consultation
- Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
