Electric T&D Engineering is responsible for the electric system engineering and planning, asset strategy, and risk management across transmission, distribution, and substation asset families. This centralized, risk-informed approach allows PG&E to manage electric risk, asset and system health, interconnections, and performance by using consistent standards, work methods, prioritization, and program sponsorship, while leveraging lessons learned from inspections and asset data to inform asset management decisions. Position Summary

PG&E is seeking a college-level student to be a member of the Electric Incident Investigations (EII) Team as an Operations Data Analyst Intern.

The EII team is responsible for:

  • Investigating incidents that meet California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) Reporting criteria (Electric Incident Report, EIR), and other high priority incidents to determine the cause and any corrective or preventive measures to mitigate reoccurrence
  • Completing Work Group Evaluations for associated EIRs
  • Responding to data requests from the CPUC related to EIRs
  • Responding to Notices of Violations (NOV) from the CPUC

This role will focus primarily on support for Incident Investigators completing the above tasks, with specific focus on data management, data collection, and project management. A strong applicant will have sound technical writing capabilities, be comfortable working in Excel and PowerBI, as well as be organized, motivated, inquisitive, a consensus builder, and seeks to understand the “bigger picture.”

The role is classified as hybrid, working primarily from your remote office and in-person in the Oakland General Office, approximately once per week or more, as business needs require. 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for a bachelor’s degree ranges from $19.91 to $29.81 and for a master’s degree is $35.37.

Responsibilities

  • Support Incident Investigators in drafting detailed technical cause evaluation reports on electric incidents, and managing approvals.
  • Support data request responses by drafting language, searching for prior responses, collecting data, and managing approvals.
  • Support updates to applicable job aids and procedures.
  • Extract and analyze data from various PG&E systems, aggregating and synthesizing to formulate findings and recommendations.
  • Work with other PG&E departments to gather information to determine extent of condition, understanding past/current/future efforts/initiatives/programs that may be related to a current investigation. This may include functional areas such as the Corrective Action Program (CAP), Electric Asset Strategy, and the Applied Technology Services (ATS).
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders and obtains feedback on team work on a regular basis, improving process as needed to ensure work product is providing intended value.
  • The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced Incident Investigators. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Electric Compliance organization through the work they will be performing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or other related field at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Experience collecting and reviewing data (e.g. searching for anomalies/data gaps/inconsistencies), utilizing repeatable processes and adding controls, when possible, to increase data integrity
  • Excellent written (technical report writing, email, presentations, dashboards/summaries of key takeaways) and oral (phone and in-person) communication skills, including technical writing and presentations
  • Strong attention to detail, ensure consistency across concepts, be careful about details and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction, escalating when appropriate to get work done in a timely manner.
