Department Overview
The Electric & Gas Performance & Process Improvement (E&G PPI) team provides leadership and capability building to drive performance excellence and process improvement through disciplined Lean and process-based Continuous Improvement (CI) approaches. E&G PPI collaborates with PG&E’s Functional Areas (FAs) to drive the company’s Lean and Process Architecture strategy to achieve business performance goals and provide project leadership and coaching to ensure a disciplined, data-driven approach to problem-solving.
Position Summary
The Lean Specialist partners with FA leadership and coworkers to solve the most critical business problems aligned to the company’s Purpose, Virtues, and Stands. The Specialist utilizes proven lean and process problem-solving methodologies and tools to instill strong process management, process-thinking and continuous improvement practices, and mindsets. In doing so, the Specialist contributes to organizational adoption and lean maturity through coaching and project execution.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and assigned location, subject to change per business needs.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $ 118,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $ 188,000.00
Job Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to design and deploy core tools
- Facilitate coaching and problem-solving sessions, up to directors
- Develop and lead training (e.g., Lunch and Learns, Bootcamps)
- Has advanced level of Lean knowledge to be able to leverage best practices and all available resources
- Conduct process confirmations of huddles and other core Lean tools to ensure quality (F1-F4 level), observe Lean behaviors, and coach leaders
- Support onboarding and mentoring new Lean practitioners
- Leads multiple process improvement initiatives, providing effective project management, change leadership, team leadership, coaching and consulting to leadership and other key stakeholders.
- Partners with key stakeholders on complex non-routine problems that require proven problem-solving methodologies and tools including in-depth analysis to drive business results and solutions.
- Supports the development and execution of change management strategy, approaches, plans and tactics related to process improvement initiatives that have impact on multiple stakeholder groups
- Develops and maintains relationships with project stakeholders including management, union leadership and a matrix of cross-functional teams to deliver desired impact and results.
- Implements process ownership, management, and improvement structures across the organization through partnerships in driving process improvement initiatives anchored to the defined organizational Process Framework & Architecture (PF&A).
- Plans for and coordinates process improvement activities to ensure consistency, cohesiveness, and sharing of best practices, and identifies process improvement initiatives that align with Company’s performance goals.
- Supports the development of the Company’s suite of process improvement and organizational change management methodologies, tools, processes, and procedures for effective data-driven problem solving and to deepen Lean capabilities.
- Provides mentorship to business partners and co-workers and supports process improvement community building and best practices sharing to build organizational capabilities.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience
- Job-related experience, 6 years
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License or equivalent on day one of hire
- 25-50% travel required
Desired:
- Formal experience in Lean, either through relevant job experience or Green/Black Belt role.
- Experience with change management.
- Experience deploying the core lean tools.
- Understand PG&E’s Lean Management System and how to connect such to the day-to-day work, including the culture of PG&E.
- Ability to operate with can-do mindset and positivity to influence others (including leaders) and drive impact.
- Competency in coaching people, especially leaders, to adopt and embrace lean tools, mindsets, and behaviors.
- Skill in facilitating trainings, following up with reviews and coaching.
- Ability to work independently, be self- disciplined and self- motivated.
- Competency in planning and prioritizing work, drive projects end to end.
- Competency in solving problems, sometimes in ambiguous situations, and escalating as needed.
- Ability to role model lean behaviors and mindsets.
