Procurement Business Partners serve as a vital link between the procurement team and the broader business, working closely with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and align procurement strategies accordingly. By fostering strong relationships and open communication, the team ensures effective sourcing, negotiation, and supplier management to support business objectives.

Position Summary

The ideal intern candidate for the Procurement Business Partner Organization should demonstrate strong business acumen and possess a foundational understanding of data analytics and IT systems. Additionally, the candidate should be comfortable assisting with metric and KPI visualization, as well as supporting efforts to improve measurement of key performance indicators. Effective communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset are highly valued for this role.

Potential Intern Projects –

  • Drive strong data governance and usability by organizing, cleaning, and maintaining SharePoint folders/files—improving document accuracy, consistency, version control, and day-to-day ease of use for the PBP team. (Skills: attention to detail, information architecture, stakeholder communication.)

  • Become a subject-matter “power user” of the PBP operating model by reviewing the Procurement Business Partner (PBP) Playbook and flagging what’s unclear, incomplete, or missing from a real user perspective—capturing crisp, actionable observations for team review. (Skills: critical thinking, clear writing, curiosity, process comprehension.)

  • Create high-impact, one-page process guides that help PBPs confidently prepare for Monthly Operating Reviews (MORs), with a sharp focus on clarity, logical flow, and usability. (Skills: concise writing, executive-ready communication, presentation building.)

  •  Assess and strengthen the team’s toolkit by inventorying existing PBP templates and tools, identifying what’s outdated, underused, or missing, and helping shape recommendations to archive, refresh, or standardize materials. (Skills: organization, judgment, collaboration, change management mindset.)

  • Translate complex procurement workflows into clean visuals by developing simplified diagrams for key processes (MSA, CWA, Change Orders, BPO, SOW)— making it easier for stakeholders to understand handoffs, decision points, and next steps. (Skills: visual communication, slide design, storytelling, process mapping.)

  • Support continuous improvement with data-informed insights through data discovery and basic analysis, helping the team better understand Department of Energy (DOE) and other procurement-related processes and identify opportunities to streamline. (Skills: analytical thinking, Excel/BI basics, problem solving, communicating insights.)

Summer intern: M-F, 40 hrs/week

HQ Location (Flexible): Oakland or San Luis Obispo, CA

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $20.88 to $36.42.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Communications, Supply Chain, Engineering or a related field at an accredited University.
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship.

Desired: 

  • Data analytics
  • LEAN system knowledge
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
