Pony Express Operations is located in Stockton and staffed with 15 client-focused employees dedicated to providing you with the level of service you have come to expect. Pony Express is responsible for mail service deliveries to 160+ locations. We have 13 route drivers that travel over 3,500 miles per day which covers over 800,000 miles per year. Pony Express serves everyday through rain, snow, fog, and other adverse conditions.

Position Summary

This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E.  This job is subject to collective bargaining.

Light truck drivers are responsible for processing intra-company mail and freight at the Stockton Facility.  Other responsibilities include the delivery of intra-company mail and freight up to 75 pounds throughout the PG&E service territory. 

This is an intermittent, non-scheduled position that provides time off relief to regular employees. You'll be assigned a route delivering daily company mail throughout the company’s territory.

Note: This job does not include health benefits until employee has attained regular status. Intermittent employees will attain regular status upon the completion of six months of continuous service.  Continuous service is defined as being uninterrupted by (1) discharge, (2) resignation, or (3) absence for more than a cumulative total of 30 days due to (i) layoff, (ii) sickness or industrial disability, or (iii) other causes.  If an employee is off for more than 30 days during a six‑month period, a new six‑month qualifying period will begin upon return to work

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $50.41 per hour.  This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide route relief coverage for regular route drivers (Light Truck Driver) out of the Stockton and the remote locations throughout the service territories. 
  • Ensure timely and safe company mail deliveries while practicing safe driving and lifting techniques.
  • Deliver mail and small packages to Company facilities within an assigned route.
  • Loading/Unloading and Sorting - Load and unload mailbags and freight weighing 75 pounds or less into and out of sorting bins and mail cart.
  • Provide quality assurance & controls: misdirected mail is returned to sender or redirected accordingly, repackage poorly packed boxes, problem resolution; locating contacts, contents, & mail, and special handling on fragile/calibrated items.
  • Process company payrolls, intra-company mail, and freight for system-wide distribution.
  • Unload van & load correspondence to vans for dispatch.
  • Provide relief driving coverage for the Light Truck Drivers while practicing safe driving techniques.
  • Assist customers with their inquiries by using good oral communication skills
  • Process and ship secondary carrier shipments
  • Participate in all mandated training.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
  • Ability to work in all types of weather extremes
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

Desired:

  • Experience working as a driver
  • In an effort to better represent the communities we serve; further consideration will be allotted to candidates living within 50 miles of headquarters
  • Ability to drive long distance (such as 250 miles a day)
  • Experience using Iphone
  • Experience with MS-Microsoft Office applications-Access, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint, Word
